Retailing for $299, the unlocked Nokia 5800 NE is a full-touchscreen cell-phone with navigation features that rival some of the better standalone personal navigation devices. Features include spoken turn-by-turn driving instructions with lane assistance, 3-D map images, plus traffic congestion and Point-of-Interest info (Resturant,Hotel,Speed Limit Warnings,Weather).

All of these services are free as long as you use the device.

The route calculation and maps are preloaded in the phone, unlike some cell-phone navigation schemes, so even if the phone is not connected to the cell network, it can get you to your destination. The 3G Phone also switches to a "Pedestrian" mode to guide you along while walking, and comes with a car kit for winshield or dashboard mounting.

The 5800 NE also comes with some advanced non-navigation features, like a 3.2 Megapixel camera, a nice music/video player, and HTML browser. For $299, this phone looks a strong buy for those looking to purchase a navigation device and upgrade their cell phone at the same time.

The Nokia 5800NE is available here on www.nokiausa.com.

I do not think the GPS works without the Data plan. Are you sure about it?
