New 7 Wonders Site Goes Active for Voting on New 7 Wonders of Nature
New7Wonders Organization Opens Voting to Decide the 7 Wonders of Nature from Around the World
Some of the nominees for the award include the Grand Canyon (United States), Mount Fuji (Japan), K2 (China/Pakistan), and the Sigatoka Sand Dunes (Fiji). This list is pretty immense, but it is an interesting look at some of the best natural creations that the planet has to offer. Just perusing through the list of nominees, and taking a look at not only some great pictures but informational segments really make it an exciting endeavor to visit the web-site.
This phase of the voting process goes until July 7th, at which time the top 77 nominees will be set aside, and a panel will review them. From that list of 77 nominees, the panel, led by Professor Federico Mayor will choose 21 finalists that will be announced to the public on July 21, 2009. There will then be another popular vote, where users will get to go to the site again, and choose from among these 21 finalists what they believe to be the 7 Wonders of Nature. This voting will continue for a while, culminating in 2011, when the official announcement of the 7 Wonders of Nature will be announced.
The whole idea of selecting a new 7 Wonders of Nature to go along with the 7 Wonders of the World is pretty big undertaking, and getting to see it as it just gets started is a really exciting premise. Now the population of the world has the chance to have their voice heard, and everyone can vote on what they feel are the most beautiful locations that the world has to offer. It will be interesting to see which of these great places ends up being in the final list, but for now, everyone has the chance to have their voice heard by voting on what they feel are the new 7 Wonders of Nature.
