The gym offers the opportunity to learn both competitive and non-competitive gymnastics and cheerleading, and there are a variety of programs for ages 18-months-old to adults for families to select from to best suit their individual athletic needs. According to owner Karen McKinley, a former competitive gymnast and cheerleader, the most popular class programs are the private and semi-private classes, which enable students to train one on one with a coach at their own level.
"And we try to provide the most cost effective prices for the variety of programs offered, as well as convenient payment options and family discounts," McKinley says.
The Gymstarz pre-school exhibition team for 4 to 7-year-olds allows young gymnasts to perform around the community under the direction of Erica McBride, the pre-school developmental director, while the Gymstarz Mini and Junior cheerleading squads are non-competitive squads that allow students to learn cheerleading without the expense or time involvement that a competitive squad requires. The Mini and Junior squads have been regular performers for the past few years for the WNBA and NBA Pacers and will do so again this year.
The gym also offers a competitive cheer squad in the junior and senior division for the most dedicated and talented cheerleaders who are eager to compete. Each squad consists of 20 or more students and are directed by head cheerleading coach Christian Lang, who has been with the gym for over 8 years and has led them to winning regional and national championships.
"All Starz Gymnastics gymnasts and cheerleaders are provided with the opportunity to be part of a team sport whether it be competitive or exhibition," McKinley says.
Other activities offered at the gym consist of birthday parties, back handspring clinics, open gyms, cheer and dance camps, and pre-school open gyms. The open gyms allow students to come in for additional training time. The gym even has a pro shop on their web site for the purchasing of gymnastic and cheerleading apparel.
According to McKinley, "Whether training on spring floors, cheer floors, gymnasium runways, trampolines, or just having a barrel of fun with all of the gymnastic roly-poly's and octagons, the students have a blast while learning.'
