New Album Release from Best-Selling Christian Artist Steven Curtis Chapman

"Beauty Will Rise" Represents Strong Emotion for Seasoned Singer

Joshua Givens
On May 21, 2008 best-selling, chart-topping and highest Dove Award-winning Christian singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman suffered a horrible tragedy. As longtime spokespeople for adoption, Chapman and his family had adopted three young girls from China over the course of the past few years. The youngest, 5-year-old Marie Sue Chunxi Chapman, died in a horrible home accident last May when Chapman's youngest son Will accidently struck her in the driveway of their Franklin Tennessee home, while driving the family Toyota Land Cruiser SUV.

Since that time, countless friends, families and fans have surrounded the Chapmans during their time of unimaginable pain and grief in dealing with the loss of Marie Sue, as she was affectionately called. For over a year, Steven laid down his music career and, by his own admittance, wondered if he would ever write, sing, perform or tour again. It has only been within the past several months that both Steven and his wife Mary Beth have been able to accept interview offers with magazines and several national news media outlets.

Steven recently wrapped up the international United Tour with long-renowned and highly-awarded contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith. Now, after time in the studio, Chapman has recorded a brand new album featuring "12 new and profound songs...Created in the past 18 months in the walk through the darkness of the loss of his daughter Maria" according to the special pre-release single album.

Chapman's latest project is entitled Beauty Will Rise and features the brand new single and title track "Heaven is the Face", a song in which he professes his longing to see his little girl again in Heaven. This one-of-a-kind album has already been termed "Part lament, part praise, part grief, part hope, part wrestling, part pondering...Steven's personal Psalms." In fact, it is a safe bet to say this album will likely be the most powerful and important of his 20 plus year ministry.

Fans who pre-order the album (set to release nationwide November 3, 2009) will be delighted to receive the special debut single CD, which also features a nearly 12 minute audio greeting from Chapman himself. Speaking to the listener from his kitchen table in Franklin, TN, Steven admits that his family "would not have survived the last year and a half of life without the prayers of so many...carrying us to the throne of the God of all comfort."

I saw SCC in concert at the Women of Faith weekend event here this summer! He was fantastic. His talent is endless. Ditto Rachelle.

I'd say this is true of many Christians, whatever their occupation, that their biggest ministries often come from their times of greatest pain. It's encouraging to see that he's not given up producing songs for others.
