New Apple iMac Features for Back to School Computing

Although the summer heat of July is still upon us, retailers have already started their back-to-school shopping campaigns. Store aisles and shelves are quickly filling and catering to new and returning students with fall fashions, school supplies, and for many - new computers.

For the Apple fan, Apple stores have received some great new technologies just in time to be ordered and broken in for the new school year. After some much welcomed silence since the iPhone 4 reception catastrophe, the latest Apple iMac has brought Apple back into the spotlight, on a positive note. The new iMacs include a newer and faster processing architecture by featuring the Intel Core i3, and quad-core i5, and i7 CPUs (depending on iMac model). Graphics capabilities have been improved with the addition of discrete graphics architecture. This means the graphics GPU performs separately from the main CPU, giving overall visual performance a huge boost. With the choice of either the ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 256MB of dedicated memory, or the ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512MB of dedicated memory, graphic refreshes aren't only fast, but visuals are also bright, crisp, and clear on the 21.5-inch iMac. Power users can step the performance up a notch with the 27-inch iMac, which offers the choice of the the ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512MB of memory, or the ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

Graphics processors aren't the only technology providing the stunning eye candy on the iMac. The 21.5-inch iMac features 1920-by-1080 HD resolution, and the 27-inch screen extends beyond HD with 78% more pixels with a breath-taking 2560-by-1440 resolution. Both resolutions are built upon LED backlighting technology and provide exceptional brightness while maintaining efficiency. Both of the 16:9 ratio widescreen iMac displays also feature IPS (in-plane switching) technology to provide a clear picture at almost any viewing angle.

The included Magic Mouse uses multi-touch technology for control by using gestures on its surface. There is no cord, wheel, ball, or buttons. Complementing the mouse is the new Magic Trackpad which functions like the trackpad on a MacBook or MacBook Pro, and supports a full set of multi-touch gestures.

Style has also always been a strong trait of the iMac. The latest incarnation of the all-in-one computer system continues the tradition.
