Baja Tavern and Eats recently opened at Port Canaveral, Florida right next door to the Oyster Bar and Grill. Outside the door, a sign promised a $12.95 Lobster Meal and a $10.95 Crab Meal along with their menu offerings. We saw many choices that enticed us and my husband had been told that the fish was good there so we decided to take their bait and try it.

The interior of Baja Tavern and Eats is cool and welcoming. Outside, the patio is already prepped for winter with plastic screening the area. Furniture goes from more formal indoors to outside lawn furniture but thankfully not plastic furniture. We ate outside and were quite comfortable and loved the view of the bay.

Menu items ranged from lunch time sandwiches in the $10 range such as chicken and fish. Appetizers were inexpensive i.e. one oyster for $0.50, six for $4.95 and a dozen for $8.95, chips and salsa for $1.95. My husband loved his local oysters and I liked the chips and the salsa was fresh and lightly hot. Several salads were offered and you could choose to have fish, shrimp, or chicken cooked in a variety of ways blackened, fried, sautéed as are most offerings on top.

I tried the shrimp with red potatoes and green beans and was delighted to have a plate that didn't overload me with too much food. The green beans were sautéed and quite tender. The shrimp were done perfectly and came with my requested lemon and malt vinegar and seafood sauce.

My husband tried the red snapper that was pan fried with a very light breading, steak sized French fries and a coleslaw that he found far too sweet. It came with tartar, but he used far more of my seafood sauce instead.

The key lime pie for dessert was fresh, cut in a moderate size thankfully that we both shared and came with a daub of tasty whipping cream and a swirl of coconut sauce which wasn't my favorite but my husband liked it.

My husband was sad that the best beer he could get was a Heineken-he favors the imports like Stella Artois rather than the bland Bud's usually on offer.

Overall, we both thought the restaurant offered good service, good and a peaceful and well maintained interior.

Baja Tavern and Eats will be open for Thanksgiving and plans to offer turkey and the works. The Tiki Band plays Saturday's at Baja Tavern and Eats from 4:30- 8:30pm.
