New BitDefender Anti-Virus for "Uninfectable" Apple Computers: Saving Mac's Day
Killing Mac's Immune Reputation
Not So New Concept Saving the Day
BitDefender is not a new concept, but rather an Award Winning and outstanding Antivirus program that have been protecting PCs since 2001. Recently BitDefender released a new version of its software for the infamously "uninfectable" Mac machines and to the satisfaction of many Mac users; it is just as good or superior to its PC counterpart.
BitDefender Features for Mac
BitDefender Antivirus for Mac works by providing you with many different solutions to the same problem. BitDefender offers real-time monitoring which constantly checks for viruses that might attempt to enter the system via physical media or from the Internet. In addition, BitDefender does protect your Mac against other threats such as intrusions and spyware. While the latest viruses and malware have learned to adapt and become increasingly stealthy to avoid detection by Antivirus software, BitDefender's Active Virus control puts a stop to that with the latest technology, which includes heuristic detection that will detect and eliminate threats; even the stealthy ones no other program can.
Advanced Protection
BitDefender shines where other Antivirus programs tend to mess everything up. For example, with BitDefender there are very few to no false positives. When other leading Antivirus software informs the user of a threat, while there is a chance there is actually a threat present, it is more than likely not present at all but a detection of a highly advanced HTML or JavaScript program. On the other hand, with BitDefender when you are alerted it has detected a threat, it really is a threat and BitDefender is already taking care of it! Of course, it should be remembered that there are not too many threats to keep track of when it does come to Macs. According to BitDefender, there are over 270 known threats in the wild. Wow, how many are there for windows; millions? However it is even better to remember that Apple still claims that Macs are uninfectable, even though the over 270 threats are confirmed to actively exist.
User Friendly
BitDefender Antivirus for Mac has an incredibly friendly user interface that flows nicely with what Mac users are already accustomed. The software uses very little resources and does not generally slow the system down which is quite refreshing since real time monitoring is usually incredibly resource intensive; especially on Mac systems. The software installation is incredibly simple and straightforward with just a few simple clicks to get the program installed and protecting your Mac.
This is a good thing as I can only imagine that the bad people are working over-time to get their bits on all those juicy, clean Mac hard drives. Meaning that this could be the beginning of a flood of threats targeted at the Mac OS platform as infecting PC's just is not what it used to be. If BitDefender is able to keep ahead of the game then Mac users everywhere will be safer from potentially infected brothers.
Same Game, Different Victim-Good Investment for Mac
Overall impressions of BitDefender Antivirus for Mac are good. There are not too many other packages to compare this to for the simple reason that until recently, no one would have been interested in investing in a Mac Antivirus program. It would have been like investing in lunar real estate. As far as the BitDefender's performance, the software compares to or surpasses its PC counterpart, is incredibly user friendly and easy to install and configure. BitDefender always has been and still is a well-developed and reliable platform with excellent customer support available 24 hours by phone or web. Updates to the software and the virus definitions are continuous to ensure the best protection and functionality of the BitDefender Antivirus software.
The new package comes in two flavors, one for Mac OS X (of course) and one that is compatible to run on both Mac and Windows computers. The logic being that there are potential customers that are running both or have one running in a VMware virtual machine. The Mac only package is $39.95 and the combo plate, er...ah, package is $49.95. Rest easy Steve, your customers are secure.

Excellent review, JC! I'm not a Mac user or an Apple fan (a long story there; will probably be an AC article someday) and I always figured Apple's claim to Mac invincibility was a load of nonsense. I guess this just proves it...
