United States of America
First, it is similar to a Farmer's Market and offers fresh produce that is locally grown.
Secondly, its variety goes far beyond produce and is also local. Beef, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, eggs, duck legs, and more from local farms fill the Foodshed.
Thirdly, you can purchase ingredients that are hard to find elsewhere. So, if you have some recipes lying around, Boerum Hill, that you haven't been able to taste due to their particular ingredients' list, now's your chance.
Finally, and this is one of the most unique features I've ever heard of from a food store, you can "know" your food. Local farmers are on hand to answer your questions. Word is: They relish doing it. And the food items have signs that explain: 1) how the food arrived at Foodshed with the route it traveled, 2) how the food was grown, and 3) how it was processed.
Foodshed's concept is as simple and down-to-earth as it gets. "Soil to stove" is how The Brooklyn Paper describes it. Shopping at Foodshed is like taking a step back onto America's frontier when the food was fresh, wholesome, healthy, and local.
Foodshed Market on The Commons is indoors and open all year around, but only on Sundays between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Whether you are a food expert or beginner, healthy local food awaits you at Foodshed, 388 Atlantic Avenue, between Hoyt and Bond Streets. It has no phone. You must meet and get to know the food in person.
