CHICAGO (March 2008)- A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF), in conjunction with the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago (UIMCC), celebrated the donation of the new breast CADstream unit on February 20, at UIMCC's Outpatient Care Center. ASLF founder Dr. Sandy Goldberg presented a $20,000.00 check to UIMCC CEO of the Healthcare System John DeNardo in recognition of the unit's arrival and to support continued state of the art diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer at the Medical Center. Event attendees also witnessed a demonstration of the equipment's capabilities.

With the support of GE Healthcare and UIMCC, ASLF facilitated the acquisition of this leading edge technology. CADstream technology uses color-coding to indicate areas indicative of breast cancer, and automatically corrects MR images to account for patient movement. The unit also spares patients from an invasive procedure and makes breast MRI more accessible to
women.

ASLF, founded in 2002, provides cancer resource and treatment option information, support services, and cost-free screening mammograms to uninsured and underinsured individuals in the greater Chicagoland area. More than 400,000 people have benefited from the organization's services since its launch. The donation of the CADstream unit will advance the early diagnosis of breast cancer.

Approximately 50 guests, including ASLF board members and donors, UIMCC department chairs and staff were given a demonstration of the CADstream unit, highlighting the advanced imaging software which includes the ability to rotate images onscreen.

"What an important day for all women," Goldberg noted at the event. "This incredible technology will help the lives of many patients in need of quality medical care. One machine can make all the difference."

MRI technology uses a horizontal tube with radio waves to non-invasively display the inside of a portion of the human body. Units deliver high quality images and eliminate the need for a more expensive procedure.

The CADstream unit at UIMCC will be used on patients requiring this type of diagnostic testing, including those involved with ASLF's trademark BUY A MOM A MAMMOGRAM™ program. BUY A MOM A MAMMOGRAM™ provides access to cost free mammograms for women who cannot afford them. Since the program's inception in 2006, 1,000 women have received information about and access to a cost free screening mammogram in a timely and respectful fashion. Funding of follow-up diagnostic testing was added in April, 2007.

Since A Silver Lining Foundation was launched in 2002 as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, the organization has provided more than 400,000 people with information about cancer resources, treatment options and support services. Through the organization's programs, services and personal support, the foundation strives to provide access to cancer related information and testing for medically underserved people. The organization strives to perpetuate the philosophy of Dr. Goldberg's late mother: "We are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times. There is, for everyone, a silver lining."

The administrative offices of A Silver Lining Foundation are located at 134 N. LaSalle, suite 1218, Chicago, IL 60602. The organization runs several cancer related programs, including BUY A MOM A MAMMOGRAM ™, the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition (CCIC), and The Evelyn Goldberg Center at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago.

The Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition is comprised of advocacy groups, social service, voluntary and community-based health organizations as well as city and county departments that are dedicated and committed in the fight against cancer. The Evelyn Goldberg Center's services include a fully stocked bilingual library; the Evelyn Goldberg Quality of Life Assistance Fund, a financial grant program that provides support for patients experiencing difficulty with daily life activities; and Peer Support.
