New Cheez-It Colby Crackers

Consumer Product Review

Thomas J McCabe

A few months ago, I responded to an online advertisement wherein consumers were asked to help determine a new flavor of Cheez-It snack crackers. Respondents to the ad were sent a free box of Cheez-Its which contained three individual serving - sized pouches. Each of the three pouches contained a proposed new flavor of Cheez-It snack crackers. The three flavors were Romano, Colby and Asiago cheese.

When I received the box of Cheez-Its in the mail, I put it away in a kitchen cabinet and forgot about it for a few weeks. By the time I ate all three pouches, the voting period had just ended, so I could not place my vote. For what it's worth, my vote definitely would have been in favor of the Colby cheese - flavored Cheez-Its.

While grocery shopping a few days ago, I noticed a display rack filled with boxes of the new Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers. Since I normally consume one or two small boxes of Cheez-Its during the course of a week, I decided to purchase a box of the Colby flavored crackers and I'm glad that I did so.

Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is an article which reviews and examines the new Cheez-It Colby crackers.

Size
Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers are available in 0.77 ounce and 13.7 ounce packages. The package being reviewed here is the 13.70 ounce box.

Price
The regular retail price charged for one 13.70 ounce package of Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers at Hartford, Connecticut area supermarkets is approximately $2.99.

Texture / Consistency
This variety of Cheez - It snack crackers features essentially the same texture as regular style Cheez-It crackers. They are fairly delicate, but they also offer that pleasing gentle crunch that only Cheez - Its can provide. The overall mouth feel offered by these crackers is very agreeable.

Nutritional Facts
Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers contain 110 calories, with 50 calories from fat, per 21 gram serving. These delightful snack crackers also contain 1.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 6 grams total fat, 0 mg of cholesterol, 160 mg of sodium, 12 grams total carbohydrates, less than 1 gram of dietary fiber, 0 grams of sugars and 2 grams of protein, per 21 gram serving.

Taste / Flavor
If you enjoy the flavor offered by regular style Cheez-It crackers, there's a good chance you would like the flavor of new Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers. Colby cheese is quite similar to cheddar cheese, but I think it is a little milder - tasting than cheddar.

When I received the sample box of Cheez-It crackers with the three proposed flavors inside, I was glad to see that Colby was one of the possible new flavors. As soon as I tasted the Colby flavored Cheez-Its, I was very impressed.

After trying all three varieties of the new proposed flavors of Cheez-It snack crackers, there was no question in my mind that I enjoyed the taste of the Colby flavored crackers the most. The Asiago variety tasted pretty good to me, but the cheese flavor seemed to be a little bit too sharp for my tastes. The Romano cheese flavored Cheez-It snack crackers offered a strong cheese flavor that seemed almost over powering to me. It seems as though the flavor voters' taste buds and mine were in sync, by deciding that the new flavor of Cheez-It snack crackers should be Colby cheese flavored.

On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign these crackers a rating of nine.

Packaging
Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers are packaged in a regular style cardboard Cheez-It crackers box. The red front label features an illustration of a wedge of Colby cheese nestled among a bunch of the enclosed crackers and the rear label lists all relevant ingredient and nutritional information.

The box opens easily and re - closes effectively and inside the box, the Cheez-Its are further packaged in a plastic bag / wrapper.

Overall Rating
All things considered, Sunshine Cheez-It Colby crackers are a great new addition to the lineup of Cheez-It snack products. They offer a mellow flavor that is fairly similar to that of regular style Cheez-Its, but they also maintain their own flavor identity.
