I know what you're thinking: Aren't consignment stores just overpriced thrift stores?

9 out of 10 times, I would have to agree. When it comes to most consignment stores, I'd opt for the thrift store, namely Unique thrift store in Falls Church, Virginia. However, New to You, Chic Boutique in Falls Church, Virginia is one consignment store worth checking out.

If there can be such a thing as a high end consignment store, New to You, Chic Boutique is it. You won't find labels like Old Navy or GAP at the chic boutique. In fact, you wont find the slightly higher end ones like Banana Republic either. New to You is pretty particular about their inventory, preferring designers over company labels. Diane Von Furstenberg, Tahari, Coach, Chanel and Ralph Lauren are just a few of the names you might see at the hip consignment store.

The chic boutique, though small, has quite a lot to offer. Aside from suits, dresses and jeans, New to You offers designer shoes, handbags, jewelry and other accessories, many of which still carry their original tags.

The prices are reasonable, once you remember that you are in a higher end consignment store. Designer jeans typically run about $35-$70. A nice suit might cost you about $150.

The employees are great at New to You. The friendly, fashion savvy gals can help you find the perfect piece (or pieces).

The location is also great. The consignment store is located a few miles away from Tysons Galleria (infamous for its high end designer stores). It's no wonder New to You has so many great designer pieces. Galleria stores like Betsey Johnson, Neiman Marcus and Saks 5th Avenue combined with overzealous shoppers help make New to You a great place to shop.

If you are more interested in making a buck than scoring a great designer piece, New to You is also a great place to consign, assuming your items are high end. Like most consignment stores, New to You pays 50% of the sale price. They do their best to get the best price, however after 30 days, they will lower the price. After 60 days, if the item has sold, cha ching! You cash out! However, if it has not, it is your responsibility to pick your merchandise up. Or you can leave it for New to You to donate.
