New Cloud Based Video Editing Software “WeVideo” Available Online for Free
Cloud Based Video Editing for Free from Almost Anywhere
One of the new "must have's" for a lot of people nowadays is some means for making sense of video they capture with their Smartphones or other video recording devices, after all, most amateur footage doesn't offer much in the way of storytelling. This is where video editing comes in of course. Up to now, most options involve either using a free product that comes with a computer, or laying down a lot of money for a commercial application. A couple of Norwegian guys saw an opportunity and developed a cloud based app called WeVideo, then did like many before them and moved to California to make their fortune.
The two guys in question, Jostein Svendsen and Bjorn Rustberggard formed a company by the same name and now offer their product for free to anyone that chooses visit their site. They've taken the whole process a step further as well by building in a social networking feature that not only allows users to share videos they've created, but to share in the editing process as well. Thus, they've built a group project video editing platform that can be used by people using Smartphones, iPads, laptops, or pretty much any kind of computer that is able to run Flash on their machine.
The product itself is very similar to other low-end video editing programs. There is a timeline with multiple bands for adding video, audio and special effects. There is also a way to add text before, during and after a video finishes and a means for clipping both audio and video to make things come up the way editors want. Video editors can preview their video as they go and of course are given the option of using a wizard to turn their project into a canned presentation. Online Video gives a great review for those interested.
The trick here though is that users that create an account only get so much cloud space to hold their project. To get more, they must sign up for a paid account. Doing so also provides access to more video editing bells and whistles, of course.
But for those that just want to jazz up their simple videos and share them with friends and/or relatives, WeVideo is a godsend. Not only can projects be edited from anywhere an Internet connection can be had, but they can be shared as well, as WeVideo produces a finished product in several standard formats. Thus, users can post the results to YouTube, attach to an email, save to a Dropbox folder, or however else they share whatever they have been sharing up till now. The only difference is, the product they share, will be a whole lot more interesting.
