New Connecticut Football Rivalry Set to Begin: The New England NightMare & Northeastern Nitro

Vonda Menard
Residents of Connecticut lost the Hartford Whalers, and never got the New England Patriots, but last year, the UFL and the Hartford Colonials made their home here, and now two other football teams are set to begin their season in the state. The New England NightMare, and Northeastern Nitro, are members of the Women's Football Alliance, (WFA.) The alliance is home to 60 teams, and over 1800 players. The two Connecticut teams, and their 70 players, will begin their season on April 2, 2011 when they face each other.

The New England NightMare are in their second year in the WFA. The team is based out of Windsor, and play their home games at Dillon Stadium in Hartford, CT. Their first home game is, May 7th , against the Boston Militia. The NightMare will play four home games this season.

New England NightMare Schedule:

April 2, against the North East Nitro (away)

April 9, against the Philadelphia Liberty (away)

April 30, against the New York Sharks (away)

May 7, against the Boston Militia 4PM

May 14, against Key Stone Assault 4PM

May 21, against North Eastern Nitro 4PM

June 4, against the New York Sharks 4PM

June 18, against the Key Stone Assault (away)

The Northeastern Nitro Women's tackle football team is set to begin their inaugural season this year. The Nitro play their home games in Danbury, CT, at Immaculate High School in Danbury, CT. The team will start the season at home, against their instate rivals, the New England NightMare this Saturday, April 2, 2011. The two Connecticut teams will face each other twice this year. I sense a possible Patriots, Jets rivalry developing.

Northeastern Nitro's Schedule:

April 2, against the New England NightMare

April 16 against the Key Stone Assault (away)

April 30, against the Boston Militia (away)

May 7, against the DC Divas (away)

May 14, against the Boston Militia

May 21, against the New England NightMare (away)

June 4, against the Keystone Assault

June 11, against the New York Sharks

Women's tackle football is a fast growing sport. Last year there was only one Connecticut team in the WFA, and now there's two, with several other teams in the northeast. Sports fans in Connecticut may not have an NFL team to watch, or NHL team to cheer for, but we do have several teams worthy of our support, including the NightMare, and Nitro. Women's tackle football will provide a season full of excitement for Connecticut football fans.
