Preen by Thornton Bregazzi
Designers and real-life couple, Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi are the artists behind Preen, a new contemporary label that has attracted high profile clienteles including celebrities and socialites. The sportswear collection embodies an effortless cool with subtle hints of rock and roll. It's the combination of sophistication and avant garde edge that has made this a stand-out line. Since its debut, the collection has seen increasing sales and extensive press while expanding into 25 countries around the globe. Their newest collection for Spring 2011 is inspired by Egyptian architecture featuring appliqué tanks and structured skirts and skinny pants. Its current fall collection includes an easy palette of black, grays and pale pink with an assortment of structured pieces like pleated strapless dresses, cutout pants and a cropped cashmere sweater (Available on Shopbop.com for $265) that's a fall must-have. Preen by Thornton Bregazzi attracts a downtown following of British rocker types and artsy musicians including Leigh Lezark of the Misshapes and the members of Artic Monkeys with their menswear collection.
Thakoon
Thai-born yet Omaha-raised designer Thakoon Panichgul unveiled his debut womenswear line with a whimsical ten-piece presentation of metallic taffeta skirts, beige separates, and ribbon-tie jackets back in 2004. Of course, it was when his floral dress made a debut on U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, on the night Barack Obama, accepted the 2008 Democratic nomination for president, that people really began to take notice of this young designer. His growing client list already consists of Michelle Obama, Natalie Portman, Rachel Bilson, Demi Moore and Sarah Jessica Parker. Thakoon's collection is said to be poised with elegance with an underlying hint of playful wit in its intricate details. Its current fall collection includes fur coats, ruffled skirts and silk dresses with interesting draping. The color palette features a neutral color scheme with pops of petrol. Giuseppe Zanotti has recently designed shoes for Thakoon like the Ruffle Suede Lace-up Booties, available in 3 neutral shades that match perfectly with each piece in his current RTW collection. Thakoon can be found at Barney's New York and Bergdorf Goodman.
Lindsey Thornburg Cloaks
Lindsey Thornburg launched her collection in 2006 after an inspirational trip to the Peruvian highlands of Machu Picchu. It isn't until recent trend setters and cloak fans such as Lady Gaga and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, that cloaks have really gained popularity as a fashion trend. Comfortable and convenient for the cold weather, Thornburg's ethnic-inspired mid length cloaks are the easiest way to fashionably cover up without trying too hard. To ease up into this eccentric kind of style, try wearing one of her solid color hooded scarves with a basic tee, skinny jeans and knee high boots.
