New Drama TV Shows Fall 2010

What's New in Drama for Fall 2010

Lisa Miller
Unlike comedies, there are is no shortage of new dramas on television for Fall 2010. All the major networks have offerings this season, particularly ABC and NBC. From legal dramas to procedurals and cop shows to period dramas (and zombies!), every TV viewer is certain to find something to like among these Fall 2010 dramas.

Fall 2010 New Dramas: FOX

Lone Star

Premieres Monday Sept. 20th

Set in Texas and starring James Wolk, Adrianne Palicki and Jon Voight, Lone Star looks like it could be a fun, soapy diversion on Monday nights. With its premise (a con-man leads a double life among wealthy oil-tycoons), Lone Star could be a modern-day Dallas.

Fall 2010 New Dramas: CBS

Hawaii Five-0

Premieres Monday Sept. 20th

This remake of the 80's crime drama looks to be sleeker and darker than the original, but keeps the same tropical setting. Hawaii Five-0 stars Lost alum Daniel Dae Kim, Scott Caan and Alex O'Laughlin; if nothing else, Hawaii Five-0 is worth watching for its attractive cast.

Blue Bloods

Premieres Friday Sept. 24th

Tom Selleck returns to television in this new CBS drama about a family of police officers. Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Andrea Roth also star.

Fall 2010 New Dramas: ABC

No Ordinary Family

Premieres Tuesday Sept. 28th

I guess you could describe ABC's No Ordinary Family as Lost with superpowers. This series follows a family stranded in the Amazon and the extraordinary abilities they subsequently develop. This sci-fi drama may just be out-there enough to work. No Ordinary Family stars Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz.

Detroit 1-8-7

Premieres Tuesday Sept. 21st

Michael Imperioli stars in Detroit 1-8-7, a police drama which takes place in the titular city. With its dark subject matter, Detroit 1-8-7 may be ABC's attempt at having a series like The Wire.

The Whole Truth

Premieres Wednesday Sept. 22nd

The Whole Truth is an interesting take on the courtroom drama, looking at the same case from the perspective of the defense and prosecution. Who's to say whether The Whole Truth will be more than just another courtroom drama, but the presence of the always great Maura Tierney gives me hope.

My Generation

Premieres Thursday Sept. 23rd

My Generation promises to be nostalgia for a more recent generation than television audiences are used to. This ABC drama/comedy and fake documentary follows a group of people 10 years after their high school graduation in 2000. From the premise, it seems like My Generation could be either insightful or self-indulgent.

Fall 2010 New Dramas: NBC

Undercovers

Premieres Wednesday Sept. 22nd

Fans of J.J, Abrams will be glad to see NBC's new drama series Undercovers on the schedule for this fall. Abrams has a knack for slick spy dramas, so this one-starring Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Mr. and Mrs. Smith-style married spies-should be entertaining.

The Event

Premieres Monday Sept. 20th

NBC must have faith in The Event, as they've been advertising it nonstop and have been keeping the premise shrouded in mystery. I guess the network is hoping that curiosity and word of mouth will make The Event must-see.

Chase

Premieres Monday Sept. 20th

That Jerry Bruckheimer is responsible for the new drama Chase will either make you really eager to see it or want to avoid the series all together. Chase stars Kelli Giddish as a U.S. Marshall who, as the title implies, hunts down fugitives.

Outlaw

Premieres Wednesday Sept. 15th

Jimmy Smits stars in this courtroom drama about a Supreme Court Justice who steps down in order to work as a defense attorney. The premise is a little wacky, but Outlaw may be able to pull it off.

Fall 2010 New Dramas: Other Networks

Boardwalk Empire

Premieres Sunday Sept. 19th on HBO

Boardwalk Empire shows a lot of promise. With a premise that sounds like a more modern Deadwood-a business man controls the burgeoning Atlantic City during the Prohibition era-and stars like Steve Buscemi , Michael Pitt and Kelly MacDonald (not to mention director Martin Scorsese), Boardwalk Empire could potentially be the best new series on television.

The Waking Dead

Premieres in October on AMC

If you're not sick of zombies just yet, you may want to give this new AMC drama a look. Based on a popular comic, The Waking Dead might be AMC's next big water-cooler drama.

Looks like a lot of cops, crime, and courtroom drama this year.

Though I'm getting sick of zombies I will watch the walking dead cause I'm a sucker for things like that. Also, My Generation? Really? 10 years isn't a whole lot of time maybe if they did 1990 or 1980, but 2000?
