New Elder Scrolls Game

Is Bethesda Getting Ready to Pump Out Another Dreadnaught?

Thomas Kearo
Is Bethesda working on a new Elderscrolls game? Their internet activities suggest that it's certainly possible, if not probable. Bethesday has recently registered a new internet domain under www.ElderScrollsOnline.com

The destination doesn't lead anywhere at the current time, and according to an official statement from Bethesda they say that they're just snatching up domain names so that their competitors won't. That might be true, but I know I'd say the same thing if I wanted to keep something under wraps for a while. I mean, they might just want to keep it under wraps as to not tip off Blizzard or SOE Online. If I were in their position I wouldn't want the enemy knowing of my assault on their vast MMO enterprise. The thing that strikes as odd about it, if in fact they are just snatching up domains is that it's elderscrollsONLINE.com, which suggests a game with an entirely different nature than other ES games. This is one of the things that leads me to believe that we might see an incredible MMO from Bethesda Softworks.

Another fact that lends itself to the credibility that there will be an Elder Scrolls MMO is that Bethesda recently hired ex-Mythic Designed Matt Frior and added him to the mix of Bethesda. They were also tossing around the idea back in August of making an MMO.

So we have Matt Frior jumping on board, we have the August MMO ideas, and we have a new domain: www.elderscrollsonline.com. This is some pretty solid evidence to me.

If you're awaiting the Elder Scrolls series to be coming to Nintendo Wii, I also have some sour news for you. Paul Oughton, an executive at Bethesda says that he's impressed with the publishing expansion that Nintendo has put up in the past year, the company still doesn't have any current plans to place the Elder Scrolls or Fallout series into the Nintendo Wii Mix.

I don't think we'll be getting much information out of Bethesda for quite some time, if at all.

It is also a possibility that people are focusing on the wrong company. Zenimax, a sister company to Bethesda might be taking over the reigns. I'd like to hear from officials over in that neck of the woods. One thing is certain. If this actually comes out, I'm buying it.

Oblivion squeezed all the juice out of Directx9 driven systems so why should this one be any different. If they roll with tradition, we should be seeing something more beautiful than anything that has come out previouly - by far. Another thing I'm looking forward to is the possibility of an MMO with voice acting done right. Everquest 2 tried to do this but ultimately spent too much money on it and neglected some of it's gameplay. Bethesda has always done things right. The standard is set high.

If the game comes out, It's expected and estimated to be arriving sometime in 2010. OK, so we've got a while to wait, but if it's anything like Oblivion it's safe to say I'll be biding my time and holding my breath.
