New England Patriots Obliterate Tennessee Titans 59-0

Tom Brady Breaks an NFL Record in the Second Quarter

The New England Patriots rise to 4-2 after an ungodly performance by Tom Brady last Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. The victory is the largest shutout in the NFL since the Rams beat the Falcons by the same score on December 4th, 1976. They also tied for the 6th biggest victory in NFL history. "Every week we're learning something more about ourselves and what we can do," Brady said. "There's no doubt a game like this can give you a lot of confidence." "You never go into a game thinking it's going to be like this," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "It's just our day today."

After this first quarter had ended, the game did not appear to be so lop-sided in the Patriots favor. However, in the second quarter that would all change. Tom Brady threw a record setting 5 touchdown passes in the second quarter. He completed two to Moss for 40 and 28 yards as well as two to Welker for 30 yards and 5 yards. He also completed one to Kevin Faulk for a 38 yard touchdown. Over the course of the game, Brady completed 29 of 34 passes for 380 yards. Brady would have had more opportunities for yards and touchdowns, however he was relieved from the game after a 9 yard touchdown pass to Moss in the first series of the third quarter. The backup quarterback, Hoyer, came in and scored on a 7:42 drive consisting of 12 plays and 61 yards.

As we go down the stats sheet, we see how much more effective the Patriots were than the Titans in every aspect of this game. The Patriots had 32 first downs, while the Titans only had 9. The Patriots offensive was completely dominant with total yards amounting to 619, while the Titans had a mere 186. The Titans had 5 turnovers while the Patriots had none. The patriots also nearly doubled the possession time of the Titans with a time of 39:00 to a Titans time of 21:00. To add insult to injury, the Patriots did not have to punt the ball until there was 4:13 remaining in the 4th quarter.

"I'm disappointed and embarrassed," Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said. "Fortunately for me, career-wise, I have never been through anything like this before and, unfortunately, it happened tonight. I can assure you one thing, it's not going to happen again." After this loss, the Titans fall to a record of 0-6, which is a polar opposite compared to the amazing beginning of a season they had last year ( 10 - 0 ). The titans finished last season with a record of 13-4 after losing their first playoff game 13-10 against the Baltimore Ravens. Their outlook for this season is not nearly as great.

We will see if Tom Brady and the New England patriots can take their newly found confidence from this game and carry it with them to battle the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend.

This Sunday, October 25th, 2009, the Patriots travel to Wembley Stadium in London, England to take on the Buccaneers ( 0-6 ).
