New Facebook Privacy Settings In, Geographic Networks Out
Facebook Offers New Privacy Settings to Users but Removes Geographic Networks
About the New Privacy Settings
The list of new privacy setting changes is sweeping in that greater control is being given to each user on very specific aspects of Facebook. Privacy settings also are offered to give users the chance to exclude specific people from seeing postings and photos.
Users can now log into a simple privacy settings page. After having to confirm your Facebook password - an extra step taken to offer your privacy controls security - you are then presented a list of various information areas on your Facebook page.
The list includes such sensitive information as your religious and political views, family and relationship information, photo albums and videos, posts you have made on your Facebook page, comments posted to your page by others, birthday information, and even entries you have made about your interests and activities.
Why the New Privacy Settings Changes?
Many of the 350 million Facebook users have commented or complained about Facebook's privacy setting issues. Principally, many of these users are upset that their racy photos have ended up costing them jobs or promotions. Why? Because bosses, human resource staff, and employment recruiters have been able to view those photos on Facebook.
Other Facebook users have been upset that personal information they care only to share with certain friends has been visible not just to all Facebook users but the entire internet community.
Facebook first revealed its intentions to improve users' control over Facebook privacy back in the summer, with official implementation on users accounts beginning today.
Geographic Networks Now Eliminated
Facebook users may have noticed something else different about Facebook - no more geographic networks. That means New York, Philadelphia, London, and other networks based around a city or other geographically defined region are no longer in use.
People who were once members of such networks will now have that geographic region listed as their current city. Other types of networks and groups are still active.

Post a CommentYou can't block 3rd party apps from seeing your basic information [PAI] (even if you do not allow an app, if one of your friends does, that app has access to your info). You cannot block anyone from seeing your friend list either. Facebook should change back to the previous version.
same here. my fan pages, friend list, and boxes are now public when i set it to 'only friends'
how do i change that?? new facebook privacy settings sucks -_-
It seems to show all of my Fan Pages when I view my profile as an outside user. How do you set security settings for your Fan Pages to friends only? I had set everyting to Friends Only I thought..
The "new" privacy settings changed my old settings and I had to deactivate my account since I would have to change EVERYTHING to keep my facebook at its old state (very time consuming). It changed everything to "Only Friends" and ignored the fact that I had several friends lists (with diff people at diff settings). I do not like how facebook automatically changed everything to a default setting (therefore my prior settings were negated).
