New Futurama Episodes: What Celebrity Heads Should Be Guest Stars?

Aida Ekberg
With new Futurama episodes in the works for June 2010, that means a slew of new futuristic pop culture and sci-fi references. Of course a big part of the Futurama world are the celebrity heads in jars that make appearances on the show as guest stars. Since the last new episode aired in 2003, there have been a lot of new celebrity heads unleashed on the world that could guest star (or get skewered) on the new Futurama episodes. So what celebrity heads should be guest stars in the new Futurama episodes? Here's a look at my top ten picks for preservation:

Stephen Colbert - This funny man is definitely one of the celebrity heads I would love to see in the new Futurama episodes. He may be used to having guest stars on his egomaniacal show as opposed to being one himself, but the guy is a sci-fi nut (it doesn't get any more galacticly geeky than convincing NASA to name a treadmill after you), and he's also on Comedy Central, the network on which the new Futurama episodes will air. But if Stephen Colbert guest stars as one of the celebrity heads in the new Futurama episodes, what would he do? Isn't it obvious? He was preserved for the Hall of Presidents after becoming President in 2016.

Barack Obama - Speaking of presidents, here another that I think should be one of the guest stars in the new Futurama episodes. In the future, President Obama will be remembered as one of the most beloved presidents of all time, after winning the War on Healthcare and helping scientists to get the creative control they need to come up with solutions to cancer, AIDS, and other serious illnesses. If Barack Obama would do it, he would definitely be one of the best celebrity heads that Futurama would ever have to guest star, and it would be really awesome to see him do battle with some futuristic, gun-toting Palin-bots in the future War on Terror.

Sarah Palin - Speaking of Sarah Palin, it looks like she's looking for a television career. I don't know if FOX would be happy with her lending her famous voice to one of the animated series that it dumped, but I don't think Sarah Palin would have a problem with it (just tell her she'll get to meet Richard Nixon!). That is, of course, unless the new Futurama episodes portray her the way I think they should. She could be one of the most evil celebrity heads in the Futurama universe: a conservative superstar that discovers the power of science, using it to become a powerful dictator of one half of a divided Earth. She could create an army of pantsuit-wearing Palin-bots that ride robotic moose and carry weapons of mind destruction meant to kill the brain cells of those inhabiting the more liberal, happier side of Earth in an attempt to make them join her side. Of course no Futurama guest stars would agree to being bashed in this way, but her character could always be voiced by Tina Fey.

Seth MacFarlane - Speaking of the network that is absolutely enamored with Sarah Palin, I think the new Futurama episodes definitely need to take some shots at it. So what better way than to make the future FOX Network one-hundred percent liberal and owned by one of animation's greatest celebrity heads, Seth MacFarlane? This is one of the guest stars I think Futurama definitely has a chance at getting, since he already lent his voice to one of the movies (shame on Comedy Central for trying to pass off those hacked-up movies as new Futurama episodes!), and I think this is a storyline that this King of Animated Comedy would love to be a part of (FOX once shafted him, too, after all).

Lady GaGa - She's one of the biggest celebrity heads right now, and one of the possible guest stars on this list that I really think we have a possibility of seeing in the new Futurama episodes. I'm sure Lady GaGa would think keeping her head preserved in a jar is an ingenuous fashion statement, although I could also see a robotic Lady GaGa being a future superstar. Either way, I think she's definitely one of the best bets when it comes to celebrity heads to try and snag as guest stars for the new Futurama episodes (I can just see Beck-loving Bender's hatred for her now).

Robert Pattinson - Like Lady GaGa, sparkly vampires didn't exist back when the last new Futurama episodes aired. So it would be fun to see Robert Pattinson's hair preserved as he guest stars as one of Futurama's sexiest celebrity heads. Perhaps the storyline could involve a future where guys can actually become real, brooding vampires to impress the ladies through gene alteration, and Fry decides to try it out to impress Leela. Then he can meet up with Robert Pattinson's celebrity head to coach him on the finer points of living as a vampiric heartthrob. Plus it would just be fun to see the new Futurama episodes take some shots at 'Twilight' if Edward Cullen guest stars.

Zoe Saldana - I think it's obvious why Zoe Saldana should be one of the celebrity heads that guest stars in the new episodes of Futurama; she's only the new Queen of Sci-Fi! But of course it would be more fun to see her in Na'vi form, and I'd love to see Futurama pull a reverse-Avatar; have her actually being a blue alien remotely controlling a human body with her mind (that Fry falls in love with, of course). So when it comes to celebrity heads that should guest star in the new Futurama episodes, I think it's best that Zoe Saldana brings her body with her.

Jim Parsons - Of course if one of the biggest celebrity heads guest stars on Futurama, he'll have to play his character Sheldon from The Big Bang theory. With him being the super-scientist type, it would be fun to see Sheldon butt heads with Professor Farnsworth; the only problem is that, as a head in a jar, we wouldn't get to see him in any of his awesome T-shirts.

Neil Patrick Harris - You can never have too much NPH on TV! This is one of the celebrity heads that I like to see no matter where he guest stars, and I think it would be fun to have him on a new Futurama episode reprising his role as a doctor appalled at Zoidberg's unconventional methods. Or he could just voice a Barney-esque character that sweeps Lela off her feet. It doesn't matter; just get NPH into the future, stat!

Betty White - Somebody get a jar for Betty White's head before it's too late! Forget hosting SNL; Betty White would be one of the best guest stars for Futurama. She's one of the celebrity heads I'd most like to see on the show, perhaps as a rival to Mom of Mom's Robot Company, or just simply as one of the biggest celebrities of the future (still!) in a show called 'Golden Robot Girls'.

I just hope the new Futurama episodes are as great as they are in my head, and I can't wait to see what modern-day madness the future will take on. Will we see references to Harry Potter? What about WALL-E? Will the evil Octomom be a real monster in the future? Be sure to watch the new episodes of Futurama when they air in June 2010, and get set for seeing your favorite celebrity heads as guest stars.

You could add Charlie Sheen to the head list, and what no John Stewart? Why ya passing over the Stew man? lol. I love Futurama no matter what celebrity heads are on, but Charlie Sheen would be funny. I would def take the time out of my night to go to lunch at an odd hour so I can watch that. Working nights at DISH Network it cuts down on viewing of my favorite shows other then on the DVR, which is good that mine has a 1TB hard drive it, but it also has a sling adapter, so I can stream Comedy central live feed to my HTC wherever I am.
