New Gap Logo Receives More Criticism Than Praise

Ron Noble
The Gap, for one reason or another, has decided to try and rebrand it's image with a new logo. The Gap's new logo has received a fair amount of criticism in comparison to it's previous logo its had for somewhere around twenty years. Whether or not the new Gap logo is going to come with a change within the stores is yet to be seen. But the Gap's president Marka Hansen came to the defense of the logo change saying it's 'more contemporary and current'.

While it's said that the new logo keeps with the original design, involving the blue box, it comes across as irrelevant to the brand looking more like a banking software or productivity software logo than anything. The positive thing though is that the Gap is open to a redesign of the new logo from fans/customers of the Gap brand. I'm sure they are getting a good amount of feedback through social media concerning the logo. There are already a varied amount of comments on the Gap's Facebook page alone wherein a majority of them dislike the new logo design.

While it's expected that people will always dislike something new we'll just have to wait to see and what happens in the longer run. Perhaps the Gap will revert back to their old logo or spruce up their new one to the liking of their 'fans'. One thing's for sure though. They've definitely got people talking about the Gap and perhaps that was their intent all along.
