The Seabrook Juvenile was held over 550 yards, and no greyhound in the race was born before October 2005. As a matter of fact, several of the participants in the contest had fewer than ten lifetime starts, making this almost a true puppy stakes. BB's Front Room had only just recently broken his Maiden, and came into the four elimination rounds in Grade B after winning D and C in easy fashion. The 73 pound fawn male then proceeded to make mincemeat out of the competition in qualifying, going four for four and running amazingly consistent times, all very fast. Front Room's victorious clockings ranged from 30.12 seconds for the 1,650 feet to 30.16, with a pair of 30.14s thrown in for good measure. In the finals, he went to the turn unfettered from box number five and trounced everyone, winning by seven and a half lengths in 30.19, easily the quickest time of the entire performance, which included two Grade A tilts.
Front Room's brother, Diningroom, had been impressive in the eliminations as well, winning three and running a third, but in the Juvenile title race he experienced some early crowding and never got untracked, winding up fourth by eleven lengths. Riyasats Samurai, breaking from the six, got up as close as second coming into the far turn but then had to settle for third. Samurai had also gone through qualifying with no blemishes, but one could see by his times that he lacked the speed to truly give Front Room a run for his money. Streakoflighting, who made her Maiden debut in the first round of the Seabrook Juvenile, acquitted herself in fine fashion. The brindle bitch won her first two rounds before encountering Front Room, who caught her in Round Three and beat her by almost four lengths. After running fourth in the last heat before the big race, Lighting drew a one hole in the finals, where she came from fourth at the first turn call to close up for second, just nipping Samurai at the wire.
Payday Wolf, Flyin Huntsville, Swift Striker, and Adonis Calling rounded out the Juvenile field. Of those four, it would seem that Huntsville is the one to watch in the future. The December 2005 son of Flying Penske ran a 30.16 and then a 30.22 in winning his first two rounds, then came up a head short in the third before coming in third in the last heat. Huntsville didn't do much in the championship race, but he has a good career on the track ahead of him. Other standouts at Seabrook include the 330 yard dasher Cold B Stanalone, who the day before the Juvenile went off won his seventh race of the meet and six of seventh 3/16ths races. Stanalone is also in the Jay-Con Kennel, trained by Becky Stanton, and when this fawn female comes flying out of the box in these short races, it's all over but the shouting. BB's Be Back won for the fifth time in nine Seabrook tries a few races before the Juvenile went to post, recording his eighth quiniela finish. His easy win in 30.53 also came under the Jay-Con banner, as the kennel has been having a nice run of late at Seabrook Greyhound Park, which will continue running live races until October.
