New Hampshire's Latest Daily Tracking Poll Shows Democrats Winning Everything
A New UNH Survey Center Poll Conducted for WMUR Shows Republican Senator Sununu Trailing
New Hampshire Presidential Poll Results
New Hampshire had been expected to be one of those states that came down to the wire in the presidential race. In 2000, New Hampshire voted for Bush, in 2004 the Granite State chose John Kerry. However, the newest polls show that Barack Obama has a sizable lead in New Hampshire. Since there is some variance among the polls, Here are several poll results as reported by Real Clear Politics:
· Rasmussen: Obama +4%
· Boston Globe/ UNH: Obama +15%
· Marist: Obama +5%
· Real Clear Politics Average: Obama +7.7%
Republican Sununu's ads Claim Democrat Shaheen is a Bush Supporter
The latest UNH Survey Center poll conducted for WMUR, shows that former New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen is on track to unseat sitting Republican Senator John Sununu. Shaheen television ads had sought to portray Sununu as a staunch Bush ally. Interesting as his poll numbers erode, Republican Senator Sununu has sought to portray the Democrat Shaheen as a staunch ally of George Bush using post 9/11 footage of Shaheen saying "I will stand with George Bush" and replaying it over and over in television spots, Sununu seems to have joined a growing movement among Republican candidates across the country who are running away from their party.
Republicans Running Away from Party
In New Hampshire as well as around the country, the fact that many local Republican candidates are trying to distance themselves from the Republican party suggests that John McCain will have an even harder time gaining ground against Barack Obama. As these candidates stop pushing the traditional Republican messages, McCain's ads and stump speeches are no longer supported by the reinforcement of local ads. At a time when Barack Obama is outspending McCain by a wide margin and has the funds to continue doing so right through election day, McCain needs all the help he can get.
McCain Camp May be Suffering from a Case of Too Many Mavericks
Meanwhile, as I reported in another article, McCain's campaign staff seems to be suffering from a case of severe and public infighting. Just when McCain needs as much, on topic coverage as he can get, the media is being distracted by accusations and name-calling emanating from McCain's own campaign. In what may be a case of too many mavericks, CNN reports that unnamed McCain staffers have begun complaining about a rogue Sarah Palin seemingly abandoning the McCain talking points. With just one week left in the race, John McCain can't afford distractions like this to take up media time.
Obama Supporters not Letting up in New Hampshire
Meanwhile, Democratic support group MoveOn has issued an email call to members to drive to New Hampshire this week-end in Support of Barack Obama. Efforts to put hundreds of Obama supporters on the ground in nearly every state across the country are part of the strategy to help guard against potential election day issues that might otherwise suppress the Obama vote.

Post a CommentAs I understand it, McCain cannot spend more because of the matching federal funds he accepted. PACs or the republican party could spend money to advance his campaign but, legally, only without any input from McCain or his staff. Off hand I don't know how much the party has spent to advance McCain, but they do also a lot of spending for senate and house races as well. They may be, I don't have the data handy, allocating more toward those races to try to prevent a Democratic supermajority in the Senate, figuring McCain is a lost cause. Just speculation though.
In short, the lack of funding is further defection by key Republican groups who could provide funds for McCain to reach more people. A sign of giving up by the Republicans or lessened morale?
Brad- I'd like your take on reports that there are funds which could be used by Republicans to support McCain but (in light of the current situation) they are not being advanced to help him campaign. I've been researching this but not deeply enough to feel confident about that information.
Good...
There were actually several news outlets reporting the infighting in the campaign camp. Even the trustworthy Fox News network... ;-)
Brad,Thanks Good article. I don't always think of CNN as the most credible source for Palin backbiting -- they just might have an agenda!
