New Harry Potter "Cult" on the Rise

Mark Mielke
I have seen what popular films and books can do to a population. Star Wars has created its own cult, Battlefield Earth has created its own cult, and now it appears that the popular children's book and movie series, Harry Potter, has formed a cult, or following, of its own.

I have to say something here. Everything you are about to read comes from an interview I conducted with a member of this new following. Please understand a few things. I cannot give any names here at the request of the person I interviewed, who has asked that he and his fellow followers remain anonymous to the world so they cannot be persecuted or incriminated. I also do not mean any offense to any followers who read this article, I am merely trying to take a neutral stance here. What I write is the views of a neutral person, regardless of what I believe. I ask that you bear with me if I seem to be a little uninformed or vague about some things. I also apologize ahead of time for any offense I may cause.

In the extensive interview with the Harry Potter cultist, whom I will call a "follower" to avoid any offense, I learned a great deal about a secret world that exists under our own, remarkably like the world painted by the author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling. The views of the following say that J.K. Rowling somehow found out about a secret underworld filled with people who have magical powers and proceeded to write a fictional story about it, believing that if she couldn't convince the world of it's existence, then she would at least open our minds to it. Members of the following believe very strongly in this world, and my contact claims that J.K. Rowling herself is a member of the Following.

To shed a little insight on the world that the following believes in, my contact told me that Rowling wrote a story based on real life events in the wizarding world. He claims that there really are schools all over the world that teach witchcraft and wizardry to people blessed with the ability to perform magic. He also claims that each country has it's own Ministry of Magic, as described in Rowling's novels. These ministries make sure that the magic world remains hidden from the normal world. It would appear that the dark wizard Voldemort, who is described in Rowling's novels, is based off of a real life wizard who tried to overthrow the ministry in Great Britain. His followers really were called "Death Eaters", and he had an army of them. However, my contact tells me there was no such boy as Harry Potter, and that it was ministry officials who brought this dark wizard to justice.

My contact tells me that although there are magic users hidden among us in almost every major city, most, if not all, of the members of the following are not wizards or witches. They are, as Rowling would put it, "muggles" who have discovered that magic does indeed exist. He claims that real magic users hide themselves from the rest of the world for fear of persecution. He says that in the past, when the world did know of their existence, they were persecuted terribly. Examples include the witch hunt in early Europe and the Salem Witch Trials of early America. He says that many native Americans were magic users and that is one of the reasons why early settlers and colonials exterminated and persecuted them. Today, only top ranking government officials of civilized countries know about the existence of magic users.

The following believes that the ability to use magic is simply a different form of science. They say some people are born with the natural ability to manipulate the world around them and bend the laws of physics. This gene is passed on through heredity. They stress that magic users and normal people (muggles) are still the same species, they just have different genes, like some people being born with a gene that makes them tall and others are born with a gene that makes them short.

When it comes to magical creatures, the following believes that they are simply animals who, like humans, have been born with a gene that allows them to manipulate the world to suit their needs. Magic users have been covering up their existence from the rest of the world because the discovery of magic using animals could lead to the idea that perhaps there are magic using humans. My contact tells me that there really are unicorns, dragons, trolls, and giants. They live only in secluded places, such as rainforests.

My contact has not told me anymore about the following or its beliefs. I hope to have more information and articles about it in the near future.

All information was taken from an interview with an anonymous person. I cannot disclose this person's identity, or his associates' identities.

Um, seriously? This Harry Potter cult is nothing compared to the Twilight cult out there. I may sound a little rude, but seriously? I think some should lay off. Sure, these cults aren't really a big deal. Let them believe it until they foolishly find out they're wrong and come too their senses. Yeah, J.K. Rowling really found out a secret world. And she managed to defy all the anti-Muggle security in that world to write about it. Really? Naw. She's just got a wonderful talent. And her writing is wonderful. The Harry Potter series is my favorite!!! But I know it's not real. And the books are NOT EVIL. Some will hope or believe it's real, but we've all been eleven. When I first read the books when I was eleven, yeah, I was obsessed. But I knew it was wasn't real. I wished it was real, but I was eleven! I don't take offense to your subject, either. It's alright.
