New Health Plan Republicans Law Suit Pending?

Sondra C
I read the summary of the new health bill. I read the part that will be going into effect immediately. The rest will go into effect next year and continue through the next few years. I saw nothing in the new health bill that would deprive the citizens of the United States our freedom and right of choice.

The new Health Plan insures that everyone will be covered by Medical Insurance.

We have long been forced to carry Automobile Insurance - should be say that because we are forced to have automobile insurance it infringes on our right of choice?

I own a cat. Many are dog owners. When I brought my cat in for an examination, I was not asked if I wanted to register my cat with my county? I had no choice. The cat hospital immediately filled out a form and sent it into be registered. As a result I have to pay a yearly fee - and my cat never leaves my house.

I bought a gun many years ago. I had to have it registered before I could claim ownership of it. Should I say that this deprives me of my right to choice? You are right! it does.

I cannot get a license to drive or a license to fly a plane without registering the vehicle and buying insurance coverage.

I must get insurance to drive a motorcycle in the streets, it this against our right of choice? The only choice we have is to either get the insurance or not drive in the street.

I can go on and on and discuss all of the other things that I cannot do without first registering it with either the county, state or country. So why then are the Republicans saying that the new Health Insurance Bill deprives us of our Civil Rights?

Are our civil rights, with regards to our rights of choice, limited to only health insurance and nothing else.

In the works is a bill that makes smoking within entire states illegal. This bill has been passed in many states already. Do smokers not have a legal right of choice to be able to smoke wherever they want and whenever they want? How come the activists do not protest the new smoking law. I wonder how many are aware that eventually there will be no smoking allowed anyplace in every state within the United States-with the exception of inside of their home.

The republicans are merely grasping on a straw to save their face. How come they never fought to pass a new health plan when Bush was in office or before Obama promised to do so when he ran for office?

The new Health Plan Billwww.scribd.com/doc/19597481/President-Obamas-Health-Care-Plan-Brief-Summaryhas been signed. It will help millions or more. It will remove the health decisions from the hands of the Insurance Companies. I read the new plan . It is explained in news reports on the Internet and it is a good and fair health plan.

There is nothing in the plan that is against our civil rights. Let's move on - there are other important laws that need to be improved upon or changed. This one has already been chewed on enough.

The republicans had their chance to help create the health bill. Instead they had the "Vote No" policy and said no to the health plan bill without even reading a word of what it said - and not one republican voted to pass or not pass the bill. They now seem to have a lot to say and none of it is correct. The www.pottsmerc.com/articles/2010/03/28/business/srv0000007900032.txtHealth Plan does not go against our civil rights, any more than dozens of other bills might do.

To Continue: I was raised eating school lunch foods, and I enjoyed them and still remember how good they tasted. I have always been healthy and still am even though we ate our mashed potatoes with chicken fat and not margerine. Parents these days have little choice of what to feed their kids. A shame.

David you are also correct in many things that you just said. But I feel that they rushed into passing the bill because the Republicans we so much against it. It is like a child who did not want to eat something until his mother told him he is not allowed to eat it. Then he ate it because he wanted to spite his mother. I also have read the new bill and I also found very disturbing things hidden and waiting to be introduced in a few years down the road. I do not approve of charging a fine of @2,000 a day to any business owner who has 50+ employed, but fails to give them all health Insurance. This is the first I heard of what you mentioned about the IRS and their refund. The idea that ever citizen must have health insurance is also disturbing. Tere are many religions that people follow that does not allow them to visit a doctor, or go to a hospital. Yet! they must have health insurance? or? I read on and feel that we are losing our right of choice. They are removing foods from schools, t

And I will agree with you that the Republicans should have introduced those ideas a long time ago. But that's politicians for you. Only after their careers are in jeapordy will they have enough moitivation to do something about it. That's true for Democrats and Republicans alike.

Sondra, I'll just point this one part out. The only thing more disturbing than not voting for a bill that you've never read, is voting FOR a bill that you've never read, something that many Democrats did not do (read the bill, that is). *That* is what disturbed me most of all. The bill is now law, and even now, we are still finding "goodies" in it that many were not aware of. Like the right of the IRS to seize your refund if you do not purchase health insurance.

I am sure that not 'all' Republicans did the same, but if they did not, how come the final vote was not a bipartisan vote and only voted in by the votes of the Democrats. And why are they suing to remove a Health Plan that millions of people need. It is going to cost the taxpayers millions and there is nothing illegal about the health-plan.
The Republicans are doing nothing now but talking and working against the president. Instead of helping they are hindering the improvements that he is attempting to make. We are supposed to be the United States and from where I sit now it is anything but united - on all fronts.
I am not a politician. I am a senior who was a young child under the Roosevelt Administration and during the Great Depression - I lived in an America that was united on all fronts. The America I knew and raised in is changing-where the rich are getting richer and the middle class is getting poorer and is slowly disappearing.

Hello David....I am going to respond only once to the posting below. I appreciate your thoughts and thankful for your extrmely respectful response. This is America and we are still all entitled to our thoughts and our own opinions.
If as you said the Republicans had so many good ideas, they had plenty of time under the last Administration to make the health plan changes The reason I mentioned the 'No', is because it was seen hundreds of times on the TV news that many if not most of the Republicans did not vote for the health plan, and they said so on TV. One Senator even said he had never read the health plan bill, but not voting for it anyway. How come the press showed what this Senator said, and not what the others said as well. Because no one said they had any specific better ideas. Now they are saying it after it was voted on and not before. How can you not vote for something that you never read and have no idea what is contained in the Bill. I am sure that not 'all' Republicans

Hello Sondra... I know I'm late in the game for this, but I just wanted to address your comment that "Republicans never offered any alternatives". They most certainly have, and I've listed them in my own column: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2601087/obama_vs_republicans_on_healthcare.html?cat=5 None of these suggestions would have increased the size of government control over our healthcare. ALL of these suggestions/amendments were REJECTED by the Democrats. None of them were even discussed by the mainstream media, so it's no suprise to me that few of the commenters have even heard about them. It's no surprise to me that they think that all the Republicans done is say "no".

I'm not going to comment because I'm tired of being threatened for not giving in to the Democratic point of view. I've had enough!

  • Patricia Sicilia4/3/2010

And you're so right, we're required by law to do a lot of things. I don't see where this is any different.

  • Patricia Sicilia4/3/2010

These suits are a waste of the taxpayer's money. Pennsylvania's Attorney General is getting a rude awakening when he's up for re-election. The people and the governor don't want to be included in this suit,.
