New Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner: Product Review

Are You Ready for Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Shampoo and Conditioner: The Sequel?

Nancy Tracy
Like many women with thick, wavy hair, I am always on the prowl for that perfect shampoo and conditioner combo that will make my unruly tresses lie down and shine. Despite the stern discipline of my salon-quality hair straightener tool, my hair misbehaves like a fidgety first-grader. So when I was offered the opportunity to test Clairol's newly reformulated Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner, I was skeptical. I'd been burned before. And odds were good I'd be let down again-especially since this was a drugstore brand that did not have the cachet (or price tag) of a designer label.

Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner proved me wrong. The shampoo and conditioner actually lived up to its promise to "clean and lay hair down with a sleek shine." While I would have preferred that tiny genies with miniature straightening tools emerged from these shocking pink bottles and straighten my hair for me, this shampoo and conditioner duo accomplished the next best thing. It changed the texture of my hair so that after I dried and straightened it, my hair looked and felt almost as good as it does after a professional hairstyling session.

New Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner: Packaging and Shelf Appeal -The packaging for this new Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner is cute and smart. The curvy bottles fit together like puzzle pieces. Even more clever, the shampoo bottle is upright and the conditioner bottle, upside down, a great trick for knowing which one to pick up first on bleary eyed mornings. From a décor perspective, the shocking-pink bottles with lime-green accents could perk up even the sleepiest shower-albeit, they're a bit loud for the earth-tone crowd.

New Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner: Lather, Look and Aroma -The creamy pink shampoo and conditioner work up a "just right" lather even Goldilocks would love. The "honeyed pear" scent has a mild but pleasant fruity aroma that left my hair smelling clean and fresh.

New Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner: Sense of Humor - l do not usually expect comedy from a shampoo or conditioner bottle, but I couldn't help but chuckle when I read the back of the new Herbal Essences hair care products. Instead of just the usual dry directions and list of ingredients found on most hair care bottles, the shampoo bottle quips, "Better straight than never" and the conditioner bottle channels Joan Rivers, asking, "Can I be straight with you?" It was like they wanted to be my new BFF.

New Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo and Conditioner: Would I buy these products? - Although I received a free set of the newly reformulated Herbal Essences hair products to test and review, I will definitely purchase them after I run out. Not only do I love their fresh scent and flirty packaging - not to mention how sleek and silky these products make my hair look and feel - I could use a couple of witty new friends.

I enjoyed your review and might try this product. I am wondering if it has the color safe rating.

  • Donna Porter1/13/2011

Yeah, the color scheme puts a crimp in my bathroom motif too. Classy review for a product I'd not have considered till our economy went to hell and haircare required a budget cut. Is this too serious?

Sounds like one I can take a chance on. Wavy, too fluffy, hair is such a pain. When I'm Queen, I'm having a personal stylist. That's all there is to it.

Have to let my daughter know about this one. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! Now I'll go see what Jenny Wagner thought.
