Erik Wesley
At the 2009 Worldwide Developers Conference Apple announced their newest iPhone, the iPhone 3GS (the S stands for Speed). While the new iPhone 3GS is extremely similar to its spiritual predecessor, there are a number of things that set the new iPhone 3GS apart and make it worthy of a second look.

New iPhone 3GS comes in 32 GB size
One of the requests that Apple has heard since the release of even their first iPhone products is for the addition of a 32GB model. Now users will get their wish with the release of the new iPhone 3GS. Multiple videos here we come!

New iPhone 3GS camera improvements
On the subject of videos, one of the biggest additions in the new iPhone 3GS is its much more impressive camera, complete with video. At long last, users of the new iPhone 3GS will have access to video recording from their phone. Also of note in the 3 megapixel camera is the ability to take pictures in different modes such as low light, and the addition of autofocus.

New iPhone 3GS adds voice over to the mix
For those of us who have to fish around for our reading glasses whenever we grab our phones to call, Apple has added the ultimate accessibility option: voice over. Now users of the new iPhone 3GS can touch a finger to options on the screen and hear their selection read to them by their phones.

New iPhone supports Nike+
The fitness enthusiasts may be happy to learn that the new iPhone 3GS has added functionality for Nike+. Nike+ is an accessory for a phone or iPod which links with a chip in your shoe to give you detailed workout statistics and information.

New iPhone 3GS has built in compass
And you thought the having GPS in your phone was nifty. The new iPhone 3GS comes complete with a built-in compass. Now you can find your way even if you are far from Edge or 3G networks.

New iPhone comes with voice control
Special for those who find searching for things manually a chore: Apple has stepped up their game with voice-activated commands in the new iPhone 3GS. Press and hold the "Home" button to speak into your phone one of many commands that will control your phone. This feature works with voice dialing and music controls, giving you command options like "play songs by the Killers," "what's playing now?" (to which the new iPhone 3GS will respond, and "play more songs like this.

New iPhone 3GS has improved battery life
Many have lamented the iPhone's short battery life, and fear that the addition of many of these "improvements" will shorten battery life even further. Apple's answer: "we've improved battery life significantly." According to Apple, the new iPhone 3GS will boost battery life when connected to wi-fi by 3 hours, watching videos by 3 hours, and listening to audio by a whopping 6 hours.

So how long do I have to wait for the new iPhone 3GS?
The release date for the new iPhone 3GS is June 19, 2009 in America and many European states, with a worldwide release in over 80 countries by August of 2009. The new iPhone 3GS will have a price point of $199 for the 16 GB version, and $299 for the 32 GB version.
