New Jewelry Trends for Fall 2010

Big, Bold, Dramatic Jewelry Takes Center Stage This Fall

If you have lobster tastes and a codfish budget, this fall's jewelry trends are for you. You can look like a million dollars just by adding a few pieces of trendy jewelry to your wardrobe. Even a scoop-necked t-shirt and jeans can be updated and dressed up with one of the latest fall 2010 jewelry trends - from bold, cuff bracelets and big, cocktail rings to blingy, chandelier earrings.

These top fall 2010 jewelry trends are a great way to brighten your look without going broke.

Fall 2010 Jewelry Trend: Bib Necklaces

Bibs are in this year, and they're not just for babies. The old school style of layering single chains has been replaced by a single necklace comprised of connected strands of chain or other materials shaped like a bib. The strands are accented with colorful gems, ribbon or other decorative materials to make a dramatic statement that will dress up any outfit. A crafty designer on Etsy even made a whimsical bib necklace out of silk flowers and vintage jewelry.

Fall 2010 Jewelry Trend: Cuff Bracelets

Maybe it's all the police shows on TV, but cuffs are big this fall, and you don't have to get arrested to snag one. Cuff bracelets are one of the hottest jewelry trends for fall 2010, replacing the jangly mish-mash of multiple bangles. Once you get the hang of the wide-shaped cuff, anything goes. You'll find bold and beautiful cuff bracelets made of mixed metals, studded with gems or even crafted from artisan beads. Some women are pairing two cuffs together or pairing a cuff with a bunch of bangles for an even more dramatic statement.

Fall 2010 Jewelry Trend: Chandelier Earrings

Instead of hanging from the ceiling, chandeliers will hang from you this year. Intricate chandelier earrings that dangle dramatically from your ears are a top trend for fall 2010. These festive earrings can be made from metal, gem stones, crystal or even feathers. Chandelier earrings are a great way to give yourself that red carpet look, even if the only red carpet you walk on is at the local diner.

Fall 2010 Jewelry Trend: Cocktail Rings

One of the quickest ways to look current this fall is to add a few trendy cocktail rings to your jewelry collection. Big diamonds may be some girls' best friends, but who besides Liz and JLo can afford them? These days, many popular cocktail rings are made from Swarovski crystal or less expensive, semi-precious gem stones, such as topaz and moonstone. Some of this fall's cocktail rings are so large, they cover one or more fingers up to the first knuckle. For more delicate types, a large cluster of stones - shaped like a flower, for instance - is a popular cocktail ring variant for those who find big stones too garish.

Fall 2010 Jewelry Makes a Statement

Whether it's an oversized necklace, bracelet, ring or pair of earrings, perhaps the hottest trend in jewelry this fall is so-called statement jewelry. These jewelry pieces want their 15 minutes of fame. Aside from being supersized (think cuff bracelet or ginormous cocktail ring), statement jewelry often uses motifs, such as elephants, insects, birds, flowers, leaves and coins, to further express the wearer's personality.

"Goodbye" Costume Jewelry - "Hello" Fashion Jewelry

With the price of gold and precious gemstones shimmering into the stratosphere, costume jewelry is one of this fall's top accessories trends, only now it's called "fashion jewelry." Fashion jewelry has become the new affordable luxury. No need to hide the fact that your diamond is really a cubic zirconium any more. Only a snooty jeweler knows - or cares. For the rest of us, fashion jewelry is a clever way to have just the right piece of bling for every outfit.

Fashion jewelry is really fun and smart. A great way to freshen basics. I just can't get into the ginormous statement rings, though.
