New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys Help Ring in the New Year on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve 2011

As the clock entered the last hour of 2010, Dick Clark's annual Rockin' New Years Eve program on ABC was at the height of excitement. Live in Time Square, the crowd was just as exciting as the performances. Among the many musical acts of the festive evening was the comeback of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys.

I must admit, I was a huge fan of both groups. But it has been a long while since I played their music. After all, the life span of a boy band isn't expected to be long.

Yet somehow, on a night like New Years Eve, it was nice watching the New Kids and the Backstreet Boys bringing back choreographed steps and catchy tunes.

Among today's more popular singers, like young Justin Bieber with his hair-flipping and Lady Gaga with her shock-worthy outfits, it was quite refreshing seeing a group of well-suited men singing old-school love songs.

The New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys helped ring in the new year by making us reminisce the past.

The latest NKOTB album was ranked #2 in the US and #1 in Canada the day it went on sale in September 08. The guys perform songs from the album in their concerts. For the promo, though, they wanted to do some old school stuff. At least that's what they've said on twitter.
