New Kids on the Block Tour Rumors Shot Down

Danny Wood Puts an End to Rumors

The Internet has been buzzing with the possibility of a New Kids on the Block reunion tour since People Magazine reported .Saturday that the long-dormant website was reactivated. Danny Wood put the brakes on the rumors by denying the reports on his MySpace page. Maybe if the New Kids saw the ticket sales for acts like the Spice Girls, the Police and Led Zepplin they would change their mind and hit the road. While dreams of a NKOTB reunion tour are smashed, there are still many other bands from the 80s and 90s that could make a splash on the nostalgia tour circuit.

New Edition- Yes, I know that Bobby Brown is a trainwreck and is way too busy on "Gone Country" to make an appearance, but Maurice Starr's first group was still a lot of fun to watch. The only question would be whether fans would want to see both the original Bobby Brown centered line up or of they wanted to see Johnny Gill. Both men have appeared on stage with the group before. The tour could be a success by bringing in crowds of nostalgic fans and by attracting young fans eager to see if Brown would self-destruct on stage.

Wham!- Admit it, you owned at least one of their cassettes and knew every word to "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go." If anyone could find Andrew Ridgley (where is he?), it would be fun to revisit pop when it was still fun and untainted by the angst of grunge and the anger of gangster rap. Wham! was one of the last great hurrahs of true pop music. Even George Michael takes himself too seriously now. The band broke up in 1986 and George Michael now seems more well-known for his reported drug problems and frequent scuffles with law enforcement.

No Doubt- Gwen Stefani is everywhere, but she is nowhere near as much fun as she was when she was a part of No Doubt. Tragic Kingdom sold over 10 million copies and the single "Don't Speak," spent 16 weeks at number one. While the group is officially on hiatus, there has been no public movement towards new recording or touring since Stefani launched her solo career in 2003, even though the remaining members have reportedly started recording a new CD without Stefani. No Doubt without Stefani is not the same, so hopes for a reunion are slim.
