New Limited Edition Banana Split Creme Oreo - Snack Review

A Tasty Treat, but Not Worth Writing Home About

JRS
I stopped by the local Wal-Mart after work to pick up a few ingredients I needed for the nights dinner. As I walked down the entryway aisle a slightly different-looking Oreo cookie bag caught my eye. Banana flavored Oreos! No, wait, 'Banana Split' Crème Oreo cookies I realized as I noted the bowl of ice cream on the bags cover.

I hadn't planned to pick up junk food, and my funds were limited. Still, this was Wal-Mart and it doesn't get much cheaper than the $2.50 a bag, besides, these were LIMITED EDITION and I might not get another opportunity to try them, so I grabbed a bag.

As I placed the bag in my shopping cart I thought back to my article on Nabisco's New 'Nilla Cakesters and how I had wondered why they hadn't taken the extra step and used banana flavored filling for them rather than regular vanilla. Oh, well, maybe they'll end up in a board meeting one day where they'll have samples of both those treats and it will dawn on someone to put them together.

So, anyhow, as I prepared for the drive home, I opened the bag and prepared to reach in. I was immediately hit with the wonderful aroma of banana. A very wonderful smell if you like bananas. The flavor, however, I'm undecided on. They taste okay, a little on the sweet side and it definitely reminded me of something I'd had before. Aside from the texture, the flavor reminded me of those little orange marshmallow circus peanuts you'd find in the candy aisle of most grocery stores. The taste also reminded me of Laffy Taffy, but again, the texture was all-wrong.

When I got home, my daughter and two of her friends sampled them. They decided they weren't very fond of them. No one really disliked them, but neither was anyone excited by them. I thought they were okay, but they definitely don't take the place of the original Oreo cookie. Also, I'd be remiss if I failed to admit I was just a bit turned off by the almost neon bright yellow color of the crème filling. Unless I'm having a seriously unusual junk food craving, I probably will not be buying these again!

I work in a cookie factory in Kitchener ON. I usually don't buy cookies but I had tried these and LOVE them. I went to the store to buy more and to my surprise they were sold out and not getting any more. While in the USA on holidays I looked for them and found them at a grocery store I bought back 4 bags to Canada and even brought a bag for the Research dept. to see if we could make them here. Great flavor can't wait for them to make them again !!!!!!!!
