If you're at your favorite Metro Detroit state lottery retailer and you hear another customer shout "bingo!" odds are they're playing the new Lucky Lines game.

The Lucky Lines rules may seem a bit complex at first, but details never seem to deter lottery players. Lucky Lines contestants select seven numbers between 1 and 49, decide whether to wager $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $10 or $20, and receive a printout of numbers in seven rows of seven, sort of like a bingo card. If all seven numbers show up in a Lucky Lines row -- either horizontal, vertical or diagonal -- the payout is $500,000 for each $1 wagered. Six in a row pays $5,000 for each buck bet.

If a Lucky player hits a four-digit and a three-digit on the same card, the payout if 500-to-1. Five in a row pays $50 for each $1 wagered. There are Lucky Lines smaller prizes for shorter rows. The odds of winning the big prize for seven in a row are 5,600,000-to-1 and the odds of winning back the price of your original bet are 5-to-1. The Lottery Bureau advertises 49 ways to win; players will have to be alert to make sure they catch them all.
