Being 21st Century Famous

Musicians are finding it easier to have successful (and profitable) careers without the record industry. Now, I know you're saying, "I'm a writer, how does that help me?" Plenty, if you know how to adapt. E-Books have become increasingly popular. The best thing? You can do a no frills e-book using a PDF creator which are often inexpensive or even better free. Don't believe me check out www.pdfonline.com.

Take a cue from bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, give away your work. People love free things! Offer a free story section, even a free e-book every so often. It'll not only build a fanbase, but allow your would be faithful to read your work. If you want, include a cyber tip jar where fans can give you tips! You'd be surprised how much people will tip, if you suggest (politely) that if they enjoy your work they could leave tips.

Take a look at what you write. Does your work lend itself to being read? Think about releasing a low-fi CD or tape. There is a bevy of free audio recording software, you can record it on your computer and then burn a CD quite easily these days. Check out www.cdbaby.com for selling options! You could be on itunes, how fabulous is that?

Let's examine this freebie idea some more. You could start a podcast. podcasts are like radio shows which can be created by anyone. including you. Pick a topic related to your subject and build your empire! Take it one step further and make your novel a podio book. This is a relatively new and cutting edge tool. It's like a cross between an audio book and a radio show. You can chose how and when to release shows. It's quite fun. That's important, have fun with this new medium.

Key tips to remember doing things for the sake of doing them, not for the goal of getting something back is a good thing. Always is provide quality entertainment. Who cares if its free if it's rubbish? If you can work on a free book and a book yBou're going to charge for do it. Just don't skimp on Quality!

While no one can tell you what will help you succeed. You could at least try it. see if you can't make a living on your own terms. Sell your self happily and believe in your own hype and your fans will follow, in droves.
