North Central New Mexico is the location for the first choice in the best New Mexico Kayaking spots. It is part of the Rio Grande Gorge. It is not the easiest experience but it is definitely the coolest one here. The Rio Grande Gorge is huge at the Taos Box measuring 24 miles long. It goes beyond that both ways to the North and the South. The Taos Box is the best though for many reasons. Number one, it is the most challenging Kayaking section of the Rio Grande Gorge. Once you are in it you have to really know what you are doing. If you do not watch out you can have an emergency on your hands. So be warned. It is not easy. It is also one of the most gorgeous parts of the state. Take time when you are done Kayaking to take in the beauty of the region. The birds and other wildlife are readily available for you to take some fantastic pictures and simply partake in the nature that surrounds you. The Bureau of Land and Wildlife management maintains the Gorge. You can get permits at the main gate for $20.00 per vehicle. The Taos Box is Class IV, advanced. Be prepared for a serious challenge and truly gorgeous views.
The second choice for the best New Mexico Kayaking Spots is great for a beginner. Rio Chama is just right for those who are just starting with the sport of Kayaking. It is less aggressive and considered calm by most Kayak standards. The Rio Chama is serene at places and perfect for those who are interested in taking in the natural surroundings from the Kayak point of view. It is classified as a Class I-III. It measures at 33 miles long. There are classes that are available for beginners at 1-800-272-3353. This is a vacation experience all in one package. All you need is a tent and your clothes and personal needs. Meals are included at $750. per person. They supply it all: the kayak, gear, instruction and meals. It is an option that is available. The training is one on one and at a professional standard. You won't be disappointed.
Both experiences are wonderful. No matter what your expertise level is, New Mexico has some really wonderful Kayaking spots. The first is perfect for the advanced Kayak enthusiast. The second choice is the best choice for New Mexico Kayaking spots for beginners. Both will leave you breathless.
