New Mexico Soccer's Elizabeth Lambert Suspended

New England's Elizabeth Lambert Pulls Opponent to the Ground by Her Ponytail!

Meg G.
New Mexico soccer player Elizabeth Lambert is in trouble. She got suspended, after she was involved in rough play. While rough play is expected in sports such as football, rough play in soccer is relatively unheard of.

What type of rough play was she involved in? New Mexico's Elizabeth Lambert, true to the form of a ticked-off woman, grabbed an opponent by the pony tail and brought her down to the ground. If you haven't seen her in action, head on over to ESPN and watch the video. Chances are you will laugh.

Elizabeth Lambert is banned indefinitely from the sport. This means that she can't even take part in practices, games, or conditioning. This incident was not taken lightly, and she will pay the ultimate price.

So what's next for Elizabeth Lambert? What is the New Mexico player going to do now that she is in trouble? Perhaps she should try to find some other sport that will help her be able to use her aggression as an asset, rather than having her aggression bring her down. Martial arts, ultimate fighting, or boxing may do the trick.

Of course, hair-pulling isn't allowed in many sports. Perhaps all women should be required to wear their hair in a French braid while playing contact sports. This would make it very difficult for an opponent to grab on to the bottom of the hair and pull it down. Plus, a tightly-finished French braid stays put pretty strong.

New Mexico is most likely very embarrassed by Elizabeth Lambert's actions. I know I would be embarrassed if she was one of my players. However, the fact that she acted with such aggression showcases that she is passionate about her sport. That's a very good thing.

While passion is a great thing, athletes need to use their passion in good ways. Rough-housing, hair-pulling, and other rough play isn't sportsmanlike. There are many more ways to be passionate and showcase your anger than through unnecessary roughness.

It's nice to see that soccer officials are stricter than tennis officials. Recently, Tennis star Serena Williams had a meltdown and told a tennis official she would shove a ball down her throat. She wasn't banned indefinitely from the sport like Elizabeth Lambert was.

Hopefully Elizabeth Lambert will be able to play soccer again. An indefinite suspension is a strict punishment for a little bit of hair pulling.

Required to wear their hair in a French braid?!? How about be required to show some sportsmanship on the field or stay off the field. This woman has no business playing the sport. She needs to go into boxing or kick fighting and learn to control her agression. May I suggest one of the martial arts?

Have you read her replies...she says she %22is sorry%22...yea right...she should never be allowed to play the game again...period.

I'm glad she was suspended. I think she should be kicked off the team for the rest of the season while she undergoes counseling. As an athlete, I completely understand competitive aggression. However, she is completely out of control. Clearly this is not a new way of play for her. It's too bad her dirty play is what earned her position, rather than pure skill. KICK HER OUT!

Once a soccer player myself, the actions of Lambert are inexcusable. I believe the apology is nothing more than a publicity stunt in the aftermath of what is some of the worst sportsmanship I have witnessed. A suspension for these actions is not enough. A person that signed on to represent New Mexico and its character should be held to a much higher standard.

Also, soccer is a team sport. The New Mexico team and coaching staff should feel just as responsible to allow such horrific behavior to continue. It is the responsibility of everyone on that team to hold themselves and their teammates to a high standard of quality play and sportsmanship. The entire New Mexico team has let down its squad, its school and the community that supports it.

BYU - Congratulations on a great win in the face of adversary. I hope you all success in the remainder of your season.

Without a doubt this game should be the last one Lambert is allowed to play in on U.S. soil. She should have been removed much sooner but better late than never. She is a loser with an explosive personality. Get that girl into anger management SOON! Time for the parents to step up and get her some help and NM should remove her permanently from campus and take away her scholarship NOW. She is a law suit waiting to happen.

That is maybe the worst officiating crew I have ever seen at any level of sport, not downplaying the female game, as a man I counted 7 (at least) yellow card offenses by her. Meaning she should've been out of that game a long time before then. The refs should all be thrown out as well. And if I were her father I would've pulled her off that field. Disgusting.

Arrest the idiot. I would love to knock her on her ass...she's a moron!

  • Bill 11/7/2009

She should be arrested for assault.

A little bit of hair pulling? Did you even watch the whole video? She should have gotten a red card when it first happened and THEN been suspended indefinitely. Unreal.
