New Mexico Women's Soccer Player Elizabeth Lambert Suspended Indefinitely

The College Suspended Elizabeth Lambert After She Assaulted Several Players on Soccer Field

New Mexico women's soccer is without Elizabeth Lambert after New Mexico suspended Lambert for on the field actions that really crossed the line in soccer. The decision by New Mexico came after a loss to rival BYU in the Mountain West Conference semifinals, and shows that New Mexico women's soccer does care about sportsmanship on the field. The reason for New Mexico giving Elizabeth Lambert the suspension stems from several violent actions she took on the soccer field, including yanking an opposing player to the ground by her pony tail. Game footage (linked on page 2) shows that this wasn't an isolated event.

Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended indefinitely by new Mexico women's soccer, and that means that she cannot participate in games, practice, or any other event that the team does. This also means she cannot come to conditioning drills and that she isn't even allowed to come to the facilities during her suspension. It's definitely a harsh punishment for a college soccer player, but for anyone that watched any of the game footage, it looks to be entirely deserved. The actions that she took on the soccer field were violent and in most cases bordered on assault, and none of it would have been all right off of the soccer field either.

Elizabeth Lambert has issued an apology today according to ESPN, but when you look at all of her actions during the soccer match, the apology rings a bit empty at this time. She did make the intelligent decision of taking the punishment that was given to her, and maybe if she goes through some anger management courses the team will let her come back next season. As Elizabeth Lambert is only a junior on the New Mexico women's soccer team, she could still come back for her senior season if the college ever decides to let her back on the field. She has a lot of work to do to earn back their trust, but it's not an impossible feat.

The decision by New Mexico to suspend Elizabeth Lambert really shows that the school isn't going to put up with this type of behavior on the field. There are many other colleges out there that need to take a lesson from what happened here, including the University of Florida, which failed to take significant action when one of their players intentionally tried to hurt an opponent. At the end of the day, college sports have become all about winning still, and until more schools make the ethical decision that New Mexico made with this suspension, kids are being put at risk every day for a game.

Danila, you are so right, no means NO. Anyone that has played a sport knows they can test the limits, but if testing those limits comes down to bodily harm against another player, then they have crossed a line for sure. The actions she took during that game were way beyond gamesmanship. If the school let's her come back next year, I will be pissed. She doesn't deserve to be on the field at all. Playing sports is a privilege, not a right. She should be done for her collegiate career. Ignatius is a douche.

If that was just being an athlete%2C Ignatius%2C then you have never played a sport. The refs cannot possibly see everything. The players have to take responsibility for their actions and have respect for the game without being told they have to.

    Lambert is a bitch...

I'm going to take the unpopular position here.

Lambert was wrong in kicking, pulling and punching, HOWEVER, she was only going as far as the referees would allow.

Men in sports will push, gouge, punch and kick until the referees call the foul. And we'd all say...if they didn't like it, they should've fought back.

The BYU chicks didn't fight back. The refs didn't call the foul.

Lambert was just testing her limits. SHE WAS JUST BEING AN ATHLETE.
