New MGM Grand at Foxwoods Hotel in Mashantucket, CT Combines Cosmopolitan Feel with 21st Century Technology
30-Story Hotel Offers New Choice for Casino Guests
The 825-room MGM Grand at Foxwoods hotel, located in a 30-story tower, opened to the public in May 2008 and is located at 240 MGM Grand Drive in Mashantucket, CT.
It is connected to the Foxwoods Resort Casino complex through a walkway with convenient people movers.
It is part of a complex featuring a casino with 1,429 slot machines and 59 table games, a 4,000-seat performing arts theater, a 21,000-square foot spa, work-out facility, and pool, an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, 115,000 square feet of meeting and convention space with a full-service business center, seven restaurants and lounges, six retail shops, an adjacent self-parking garage with 2,500 spaces, and hotel and casino valet areas.
The MGM Grand at Foxwoods Hotel features six different types of rooms including deluxe rooms, producer suites, presidential suites, chairman suites, hospitality suites and studio suites.
Each type features a 32" Phillips LCD High Definition television with digital and high definition channels, video on demand, an information directory, digital music channels, the Apple I-Home Clock, complimentary wireless high speed Internet property-wide at no extra charge, and interactive telephones with content display.
All rooms were designed by Wilson and Company of Dallas and feature natural rosewood elements.
They also feature sensor-activated mini-bars, in-room safes, coffee makers, hair dryers, and 24-hour room service.
Prices for the hotel rooms and suites are dependent on day of the week, time of the year, and demand.
They can be obtained by visiting www.mgmatfoxwoods.com or by calling 866-MGM-0050.
Check-in time is Monday through Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. while check-out time is 11 a.m. everyday.
The hotel features an express checkout through the room television and features a VIP desk with lounge area off the main hotel lobby.
Floors where smoking is permitted include the fifth, seventh, ninth, twenty-fifth, twenty-seventh, and twenty-ninth.
Non-smoking floors are all others with rooms beginning on the fourth floor and ending on the thirtieth floor.
Approximately 78 percent of the rooms at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods are smoke-free.
There are 688 deluxe rooms which have a king-size bed, two double beds, or two queen beds.
Each room ranges in size between 388 and 400 square feet and features a marble shower and vanity area and writing desk.
Double-bed handicap accessible rooms have a bathtub and can connect with other deluxe rooms.
When I stayed at the hotel, I stayed in a deluxe room on the 27th floor with two queen-sized beds.
While it was a typical motel-size room, it offered a spectacular view of Route 2, the Lake of Isles golf course, and the Foxwoods Resort Casino complex.
Unlike some hotels I have stayed at, this motel has a spacious walk-in shower with an adjustable shower nozzle that offers plenty of water pressure and warm water.
The spacious bathroom provides plenty of room to get out of the shower and the spacious vanity allows plenty of room for toiletries and a large mirror.
The mini-bar, located directly above a fully-stocked refrigerator, is motion activated meaning you will be charged for the item as soon as it is moved from its original location.
Many of the items on the mini-bar, like peanuts and gummy bears, are quite expensive so be particularly careful if you have children or are particularly clumsy and could potentially knock down the items.
There are 71 producer suites varying in size from 584 to 663 square feet with spacious bedrooms featuring a king size bed and an adjacent sitting area.
The suites are designed as expanded versions of the deluxe room and feature the same amenities in addition to a five-fixture Jacuzzi-style whirlpool bathtub and shower room.
Each suite features panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and could potentially connect with presidential, chairman, or studio Suites.
There are 52 director suites which are 601 square feet featuring panoramic window walls facing the northwest corner or Norwich side of the hotel.
Each suite features a king-size bed, walk-in closet, and a private sitting area in addition to producer suite features including the five-fixture Jacuzzi-style whirlpool bathtub and separate shower.
Each director suite features rust and beige colors with natural rose furniture.
There are four presidential suites which are 1,199 square feet with a spring coloration theme.
Each suite features a large entry area with powder room, an expansive living space, a dinning area that can entertain up to six guests, wet bar and kitchenette with television, king-sized bedroom with sitting area and workspace, and an over-sized closet with dressing area.
The suite also features a master bath with five-fixture Jacuzzi-style whirlpool bathtub with a separate shower with a window wall looking into the bedroom.
A presidential suite could potentially connect with a producer suite.
There are also four studio suites which are 1,925 square feet with a water coloration theme of blues and browns.
In addition to a large entry with coat closet and lavish sitting area, the suite features a king sized bed with another seating area, spacious bathroom with a marble shower and vanity area, spacious entertaining area with expandable dining table for up to ten guests, and a full service bar with bar-back and butler pantry.
The suite could potentially connect to a producer suite.
There are nine hospitality suites which are 1,925 square feet featuring a master bedroom, two entertaining areas, an eight person dining table with the ability to expand for ten people, and a large bar with a bar-back and butler pantry.
Additionally, one of the living areas can be transformed into a sleeping area with a queen size Murphy bed and a ¾ bath featuring a walk-in shower, toilet, and outside vanity.
The master bedroom includes a master bath with a separate shower and a five-fixture Jacuzzi-style bath tub.
Last, but certainly not least, are the two chairman suites which are the largest of all the suites at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
Each suite is 2,352 square feet featuring a large living area with coat closet and powder room along with a dining area for ten including buffet space and a wet bar.
Additionally, the suite has an adjoining butler pantry/warming kitchen for catering, a king-sized bedroom with entertainment area, and a walk-in closet with a dressing area and table.
The suite features a master bathroom with a five-fixture Jacuzzi-style bathtub and separate shower with a window wall near an adjacent private parlor.
