New Mobile Video Options Abound for the IPad as Well as the IPhone and IPod Touch

Netflix, HBO, and Apple's New TV Show Rental Service Hit ITunes

One offshoot of the Apple iPad's growing popularity is the burgeoning market for mobile video on the iOS 4 platform. The porting of the popular Netflix iPad app to the iPhone and iPod Touch is merely one example of how people are now watching everything from movies to TV shows on their mobile device.

The Netflix App for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch

The free Netflix iPad app highlighted the list of popular downloads when Apple's tablet computer first launched. That same Netflix app is now available for download for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Netflix members are able to watch movies and TV shows on every Apple mobile device.

The app also allows users to manage their instant queues as well as pick up where they paused video playback on their TV or computer. The Netflix app is a must download for Netflix members who also own an Apple mobile device.

HBO's Upcoming iPad App Brings True Blood and The Sopranos to Mobile Video

HBO is developing a mobile video app for the iPad, declining to enter an agreement with Netflix to offer HBO's content through Netflix's service. This move makes sense for HBO as they want to control their own in-house properties. If the app is successful, expect HBO to port it to the iPhone and iPod Touch, and potentially Android-powered mobile devices.

Also in the works is the HBO Go service, which provides on-demand video playback to other cable providers, including Verizon's FiOS. Expect the HBO iPad app and the HBO Go service to launch early in 2011.

Apple Rumored to be Bringing TV Show Rentals to iTunes

Rumors are hot that Apple is bringing a TV show rental service to iTunes. The service allows iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch owners to rent current TV show episodes for a 48-hour period at the cost of 99 cents. Apple scheduled a Steve Jobs "dog and pony show" for September 7th, and many pundits are expecting the new rental service to be announced at that time.

Fox and ABC are rumored to be included in the September 7th presentation, and NBC and CBS are supposedly also in talks to be part of the new iTunes TV show rental service.

With all these new mobile video options for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch owners, TV and movie buffs soon can enjoy a plethora of viewing options on their Apple mobile device.
