New Moon Reviews Sparkle Even Less Than Twilight Reviews

Robert Dougherty
New Moon reviews are useless, but critics tried to get heard with their New Moon reviews anyway. The New Moon reviews were expected to be pretty low, since critics weren't big fans of Twilight. However, the New Moon reviews were split down the middle at first, with the occasional review praising it as a guilty pleasure. However, the New Moon reviews went downhill overnight, meaning that it won't reach the modest mixed reviews of Twilight - as if that means anything.

After 12 months of breathless anticipation, Twilight: New Moon finally begins the Team Edward vs Team Jacob wars. After Edward Cullen leaves Bella Swan for her protection, she goes into a deep depression, until Jacob the werewolf comforts her. However, Edward does eventually return to break up the new couple - though they visit Italy and battle the all powerful Volturi along the way.

No New Moon review can really be impartial, as critics and fans either love the Twilight saga, or can't stand it at all. For those who can't stand Twilight books or the first film, New Moon is not for them. Like the original, the sequel is more for the established tween audience, and few outsiders will be tempted to join in.

But the New Moon reviews weren't all bad to start off, as some critics were more forgiving of the film. It looked like 2012 would remain the most mocked film of the month, as early critics just shrugged New Moon off. But as more review responses came in, the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes got worse and worse. The original got just below 50% positive, yet New Moon's ratings are almost half that.

Some of the big complaints in New Moon reviews involve Bella and Edward being apart for so long, and new Twilight director Chris Weitz. Though Catherine Hardwicke drew her share of flack for Twilight, Weitz doesn't seem to be an improvement, despite adding bigger special effects.

But as usual, the biggest special effects are Robert Pattinson's hair, Kristen Stewart's swooning, and Taylor Lautner's newfound muscles. And as usual, reviews aren't too fond of the dialogue that Stephenie Meyer gave them. In addition, cries that the Twilight saga is misogynistic, and obsessed with shirtless young men, are louder than ever.

As more New Moon reviews came in, the Rotten Tomatoes total went down to 28% positive as of 8 a.m. The consensus reads "The Twilight Saga's second installment may satisfy hardcore fans of the series, but outsiders are likely to be turned off by its slow pace, relentlessly downcast tone, and excessive length."

Each New Moon review will still fall by the wayside, as soon as box office projections and totals come in. Currently, hopes are for an $90M+ opening weekend, and to surpass Twilight's $191M domestic total. Like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, New Moon may have even worse reviews than its original, but will make much more money anyway.

Well... CHIN33GIRL.... i'm just gunna guess your a girl, so let me just say this. (I'm not being sexist or anything stupid like that, just saying what i think) Guys dont see it from a girls point of view. Maybe you liked it because it was romantic and girls just kinda love that kinda stuff (most of the time). Guys, its about 50 - 50, some guys like it or think its cool, some hate it and cant stand it (they want more action and excitment) so me personaly (i'm a guy) i liked it, but i do agree, it could have used a couple more fights (action) and less of Edward... when she was getting into dangerous situations, and she kept seeing him, it was kinda creepy, like she was on drugs or something, ya she missed him and he was always on her mind or whatever, but still, alittle bit to much.

roxy: "its a story about uncontrollable, enduring, limitless love...and the conflict of having two parts of yourself wanting two different things...its about a love that women only in thier dreams and through books and movies can imagine and pine over..."

I so agree with what you said roxy...that is exactly what go me hooked. I watched the movie this past Sunday so I can see what the Twilight hoopla was about. So I would know what was going on in New Moon if I decided to watch it. And I've decided to read New Moon before I watch it. I started y'day and should finish tomorrow. I'm craving the love story, that's exactly what I liked about Romeo & Juliet. That unconditional love is so hard to come by these days.

ok so i am going to say something that you can comment on if you want...i have to be honest and say i am only here to support the books because the movies really dont live up to expectation....i think the closest anyone very got with book to movie was LOTR and that was because he was brilliant...I have to be fair and express that i love the story and the character developement in the books for twilight are there...i think the casting director for the movies should be shot though because i could play bella or edward for that matter with more emotion then the two of them together...the movies arent good because they cant seem to portray the emotion needed for the story....and jon i think you are a critic because you are devoid of emotion and dont even know what love is....human beings or maybe just the ones with estrogen and vaginas LOVE the BOOKS....I take back my approval of the movies having not seen the second one and not liking the 1st one at all....its a conveinece for the audiance

You're deluding yourself by comparing Shakespear to Meyers. What a laugh. You can try any way you'd like, but if it walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck... well, maybe it's just crap. Look, the reason that you're arguments just don't pan out is b/c a critic actually has an unbiased opinion when they go to watch a film. Twilight fans were going to love the films before they were even released, making your opinions biased. Even though the movies (and novels) are just terrible, fans would never admit that. *Gasp* So it doesn't really matter what you say, I would take a critics opinion about a movie a little more serious than I would yours. If you really are an English major, you need to read a few more books before stating that Twilight "connects with basic human emotions."

  • CHIN33GIRL11/24/2009

so the writing is simple and the movie according to some is lame... booo hoo I am an english major who reads 'intelligent' writing on a daily basis and you know what? it is fun when you can actually read a piece of literature that is plain, simple, honest and one that connects with basic human emotions. Romeo and Juliet was just as crappy but because it was written by the 'great' Shakespeare you don't here noooo body complaining. So you know what the 'educated' critics say that Twilight is poor that's not what the box office is saying though. For a movie to be 'great' these days Kate Blanchett of Sean Penn has to act in it, well you know what? we don't care Twilight total rocks and if I am 90 when the third installation comes out I would be there walking stick and all.

"explain to me why women in their 30's 40's and 60's read and love these books"

    'Cause you're loosers.

Trust me, America does not love these novels.

    What a joke.

Like Twilight, New Moon swithches so quickly from scene to scene that you don't get a chance to get emotionally involved in it. It seems to just be trying to get the iconic moments there but leaves out character development. Edward is annoyingly depressive. I did not get that from him in the books. He seemed more witty and interesting to me.
Taylor was the most expressive and interesting to watch. Bella was ok but never lets down to relax. Seeing Edward in this movie, I wonder what she fell in love with. I hope they do better in the next one.

you can't tell me that these books aren't everything i said they are because if they aren't then explain to me why women in their 30's 40's and 60's read and love these books...get a clue...just because you dont think they are good just means that you are a critic and have never felt or imagined anything worth loving this much...yes it is a simple story and simply written but the story no matter how TRITE it is...is a classic story of love and unless you arent a fan of love(i'm guessing thats you) you should love this story...I'm not uneducated so stop talking to me like I'm twelve...I've read rice and hamilton(anita blake)...and the new sookie stackhouse novels and they are all good stuff i love a good vamp novel and i love the raunchy stuff in the blake books but i dont see why you have to knock the story because of simplicity...obviously america loves it and you are just trying to be the different one, but all it does is make you look like an emotionally crippled ass

Jetkokos, I don't think it came as a surprise that the general population enjoy terrible movies. These same people line up for Catwoman or Norbit as well. And Roxy, if you want to read books that ACTUALLY portrays the things you've described below, try another author. Meyers work is trite and hallow. Enjoy you're fun, but don't kid yourself in pretending this is a movie of quality.

And still it breaks records. In your face? :P
