According to its Facebook page, the new NBA 2K12 cover athletes have been announced and Michael Jordan is making yet another comeback.

The initial two new athletes however will be Larry Bird of Boston Celtics fame and Magic Johnson of LA Lakers fame. The two forwards staged multiple legendary championship battles in the mid-80s and now they will be opposing cover athletes in the most popular basketball game in the world.

The Facebook page said that the game will be released for Playstation 3 and XBox 360 as usual after winning 14 different major awards in the gaming industry last year. PC users along with the Wii and PSP will also be getting the game this October.

The covers were designed by popular artist Adam Larson, who created unique covers of the three athletes that are artistic and modernized with flowing colors and more. Larson has been Emmy-nominated and added a special touch to this year's covers.

Many fans had hoped that Dirk Nowitzki or Derrick Rose or something other modern star would be on the NBA 2K12 new covers but it looks as if 2K Sports has decided to go the old-school route again. It obviously was quite successful last year with MJ on the cover so it's a unique strategy that they can't go wrong with again this year.

Now fans will have to decide which of the new covers to buy when it comes to the new NBA2K12 game. Magic and Bird are both popular but Jordan might get a lot of buys as well considering how loyal people are to his brand.

It will be interesting to see which of the cover athletes sells the most copies and which direction the company goes in next year.
