New Open Casting Call Scheduled for Lionsgate Feature Film 'The Hunger Games' Aka 'Artemis'

Alan Baltes
The extras casting director for the Lionsgate feature film "The Hunger Games" are holding a new open casting call in Shelby, NC for local area adults to work as background performers on the film. The production will be hiring over one thousand extras throughout filming, in addition for stand-ins and photo doubles for the film's stars.

"The Hunger Games" has been using the working title of "Artemis". In some cases a working title may ultimately be used as the official title. However, just as with the Twilight films, it is highly unlikely that the title of the "The Hunger Games" would change. The titles of the novels in the series are "The Hunger Games," "Catching Fire," and "Mockingjay". Working titles are now a very common practice by which these high-profile films or television series is given a fake working title to keep its production a secret, and to prevent price gouging by suppliers, casual theft and undesirable attention.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin May 23, 2011 in North Carolina. Shooting will continue through September 3, 2011. The film is set for a theatrical release on March 23, 2012.

Details on the open casting call and extras registration information can be found on the following casting post:
