New Orleans Saints 2011 NFL Playoffs Preview: No Respect for Defending Super Bowl Champs?

Drew Brees & New Orleans Saints Have Struggled This Season but Don't Write Them Off

Todd Jacobs
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints survived their Super Bowl hangover and now they are hitting on all cylinders as the 2011 NFL Playoffs are set to begin. With the exception of the NFL Week 17 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New Orleans Saints offense and defense looks to be back to their Super Bowl season form. The New Orleans Saints will face the first team in the NFL to make the NFL Playoffs with a losing record, the Seattle Seahawks.

Can Drew Brees and New Orleans Saints Offense Cut Through Competition in NFL Playoffs?

Drew Brees and this New Orleans Saints offense is a different animal with a healthy Reggie Bush and now Chris Ivory returning to the lineup. The addition of a running game gives Drew Brees a better handle on his offense and the ability to set up the play action pass with his explosive running backs. Bush is also an asset when working as a slot possession receiver in this New Orleans Saints offense.

Brees has been under the radar this season considering the slow start and the success of the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South this season. Brees is still averaging 280 yards per game this season which ranks him second behind Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts offense. Answer: Yes, Drew Brees and this New Orleans Saints offense have an excellent opportunity to make it back to the NFL Conference Championship game.

Can New Orleans Saints Receivers Step Up in NFL Playoffs?

Marques Colston and Lance Moore are also flying under the radar this NFL season but they will need to make their mark in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs if they expect to move into the next week of NFL Divisional Playoffs. Something to consider if the New Orleans Saints meet up with the Atlanta Falcons later in the NFL Playoffs.

Colston has less than 50 yards combined in their two games this season. On the flip side of that is Lance Moore. He had his best game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons with two touchdowns and 149 yards receiving. Answer: Yes the New Orleans Saints receivers will step and play a major role in the NFL Playoffs.

Can Reggie Bush Make a Difference on New Orleans Saints Special Teams in NFL Playoffs?

Reggie Bush is the wild card for the New Orleans Saints on NFL Wild Card Weekend. Bush is explosive on special teams and if he breaks off a major return in any of the NFL Playoffs games it will make Drew Brees job that much easier.

If NFL opponents kick the ball away from Bush it will also play into the result because it will give the New Orleans Saints good field position. Answer: Yes Reggie Bush will make a difference in the NFL Playoffs whether be makes a big return for a touchdown or not.

New Orleans Saints Final 2011 NFL Playoffs Preview

The New Orleans Saints experienced a hiccup on their way to the NFL Playoffs when they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The loss exposed some weaknesses in the New Orleans Saints offense but it will be a challenge for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs game.

The New Orleans Saints are 6-2 on the road this season but they have not played in many cold weather games this season. They will play the Seattle Seahawks on their home Qwest Field. The Seahawks are 5-3 on their home field.

The New Orleans Saints will breeze through the Seattle Seahawks in their first NFL Playoffs game and they have a chance to advance all the way through to the Super Bowl this season if the match ups fall their way. Final prediction for New Orleans Saints season is an appearance in the NFL Divisional Playoffs game and a loss to either the Atlanta Falcons or the Philadelphia Eagles to end their season.
