Come on now people, did you really think that the Saints would beat the New England Patriots?
Wait a minute! The New Orleans Saints did beat the New England Patriots? That can't be true. The Patriots have Bill Belichick as a coach. Did you forget who plays quarterback for the Patriots? That's Tom Brady throwing bombs to the likes of Randy Moss out there.
The truth of the matter is the Patriots could've picked any quarterback they wanted to throw to the Patriots wide receivers and it wouldn't have made any difference at all. They could've choose Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, or even Joe Montana at his prime. They could've even added Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson to their receiving corps and again it wouldn't have mattered.
Why? The New Orleans Saints offense was unstoppable last night. I know people are saying, "Well, duh, they have been that way all year." Last night was different though. The New Orleans Saints picked it up to another level; one that isn't even supposed to be possible. Have you ever seen so many different receivers constantly make moves and run forever? It is harder to remember plays where the receivers ran for less than five yards after the catch, than it is when they ran for over 15 yards after the grab.
I thought this would be a close game with a ton of scoring. I got half right. Of course, the other problem is if I had to pick, I would've said the Patriots would win. It was a close call for me and I thought the game would reflect that.
If there are any New Orleans Saints doubters left, you can now leave the building. They dominated the Patriots the entire game. Who would've predicted the Saints would've blown out the Patriots 38-17? Does anybody blow out the Patriots like that? Ever?
Drew Brees went 18-23 for 371 yards and 5 touchdowns. He even completed the five touchdowns to five different receivers. For the rest of the season, how are teams going to even attempt to contain the Saints offense? Do you drop back everybody and let them run all over you? Do you blitz Brees constantly and hope to force interceptions?
After watching last night's game I wonder if there is anyway to stop this offense. It reminds me of the Kurt Warner led Rams; "the greatest show on turf," as they were called. In my opinion, not even those Rams could have looked as fluid and dominating as the New Orleans Saints did last night.
