While 2008-09 season auditions have already passed for the Saintsations, these tips still apply for 2009-10. Be sure to regularly visit http://www.neworleanssaints.com/saintsations for the latest information and audition brochures.
The 2008-09 New Orleans Saintsations cheerleading audition registration forms and payment of a $40 registration fee was due by the first date of auditions on April 13, 2008. It is recommended to check the Web site at the beginning of 2009 to determine deadlines for next season's tryouts.
Requirements for ladies wanting to audition are:
1. All applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of the first audition date (proof of age is required with birth certificate or valid driver's license)
2. Membership is for one year; no preference is given to returning members
3. You must complete a registration form, medical release form and consent form
4. Members of the Saintsations must attend two rehearsals per week, usually Tuesday and Thursday, with some Wednesday rehearsals. There will also be a mandatory training weekend.Be sure to familiarize yourself with the style of dance for this team, and it sometimes helps to try contacting the manager or coach in advance.
Make sure you follow dress guidelines for all events and auditions. Appropriate dress for this season's auditions was flexible for individual routines; however, for the second routine, a black two-piece dance ensemble with flesh-colored tights and dance shoes was required for the remaining tryout performances.
This season, the Saintsations hosted an advance workshop prior to auditions. This workshop was $50; however, with attendance the $40 audition registration fee was waived. While you are not required to attend this advance session, it is highly recommended you attend.
It is important to note that in addition to being a strong dancer with the ability to memorize and perform high-energy routines, members of the New Orleans Sainsations are also expected to attend various corporate, community and charitable events as a goodwill ambassador for the Saints organization.
According to the squad's Web site, "We are looking for dedicated young women who are physically fit, talented in dance/cheer, and are able to present themselves in a professional manner. Because the Saintsations are influential role models to the youth in our communities, we will select women that are committed to leading a healthy, productive lifestyle."
Pro cheerleading squads originated with the Dallas Cowboys in 1971, thanks to then-owner Tex Schramm. Schramm wanted a team of attractive, model-like cheerleaders who could also dance similar to Broadway performers. Be sure to check out some Tryout Tips on www.dancecheer.net. You'll also find pointers to help you ace the in-person interview.
