New Orleans Saints Raffling Off Super Bowl Ring

Proceeds to Benefit Gulf Coast Relief for Residents of Louisiana

Karen Gros
The New Orleans Saints are hosting a raffle to raise funds for the Gulf Coast Relief Fund following the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig explosion and oil spill that occurred two days later. The grand prize will be an authentic New Orleans Saints Super Bowl World Championship Ring, the same ring the players received after winning Super Bowl XLIV.

Raffle tickets will cost $2.00 each, with a minimum purchase of five tickets for a total of $10.00. The drawing will be held on the first home game of the season on September 9, 2010 when the New Orleans Saints will take on the Minneapolis Vikings.

The value of the Super Bowl XLIV Ring is estimated to be $7,200.00. The winner does not have to be present at the September 9, 2010 football game. The winner of the Super Bowl XLIV Ring will be notified at the time of the drawing.

The New Orleans Saints football team visited the Louisiana Gulf Coast this past Tuesday and were able to witness first-hand the problems associated with the crude oil washing ashore along the Louisiana Gulf Coast. The Saints hope to raise as much as 1 million dollars that will be used to help residents in Louisiana recover from this massive oil spill.

The winner of the Super Bowl XLIV ring will also receive a cash payment in the amount of $2,178.00 which will cover tax liabilities and be paid directly to the IRS and Commonwealth of Massachusetts on behalf of the winner.

Isn't it nice that they give the winner the tax money too! Makes one wonder why tax must be paid when you get lucky.
