The city had planned to host a parade for the Saints regardless of whether they won the Super Bowl or not, but with the win tonight the team Mayor Ray Nagin's office and the New Orleans Police Department released the official schedule an hour after the team won against the Indianapolis Colts.
The parade will take place on Tuesday, February 9th at 5 PM CST. Organizers said the parade will feature 10 floats as well as local bands to provide entertainment. The team will be in the floats and in cars traveling along the victory route and one of the floats will feature the original Saints mascot.
The parade route starts from the Superdome, beginning at Poydras and LaSalle streets and going to Loyola and then to Howard Avenue. It will head around Lee Circle and up St. Charles Avenue to Canal Street and ending at Convention Center Boulevard.
There will also be a staging area where fans will be able to go after the parade near the end of the parade route to give everyone a chance to continue the party throughout the evening.
Saints' Quarterback Drew Brees will also be honored as the King of Krewe Bacchus parade on Sunday, February 14th, 2010 in New Orleans.
The Orleans Parish public schools have announced that students will be released at 1:30 PM on parade day and parents should make proper arrangements for their children. Algiers Charter Schools will be closing at 12:30 PM. Local school bands will be participating in parade including Walker, Karr and Behrmann.
The city is encouraging employers to let employees go home early so they can see the parade or return to their homes if they live along the parade route.
The Police Department is also expecting a large crowd to converge on the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport MSY when the team returns home on Monday February 8th. The city and Police are encouraging everyone who wants to celebrate the victory parade to exercise caution and to be careful and celebrate responsibly.
