New Parent Gifts that Are Low Cost and Original

5 Must Have's for Every New Parent

Rosa Hayes
If you asked any new parent what they want as a gift for themselves, it would be something to make their lives easier with their newborn. Being a new parent brings on a lot of stress, anxiety, and fear that they may have never experienced before. As a parent to six children I can tell you some of the key essentials that every new parent should have as a gift this holiday season. These are all low cost gifts for parents and can be purchased at local stores. There is nothing better than purchasing low cost gifts for parents that really make a difference in their lives.

1 .Bathrobes: Bathrobes come in his and her colors and trust me, when it comes to getting in and out of the shower, they may not always have time to put their clothes on. Bathrobes can be a low cost gift or you can splurge a little but the decision is up to you. I swear by my bathrobe when it comes to multi-tasking between the shower and the baby and their significant other may not always be there to take on baby duty while the other one lounges in the bathtub.

2. Gift Card: Any gift card to any store that sales anything baby related and carry household supplies, are a plus for new parents especially if you can find one within a five mile radius of their home. Forget the Baby Depot, forget Baby's R Us, they want something that will allow them to shop for everything in one store. Gift cards are like money and money is always great when you have to tote a little one around. Gift cards are low cost gifts since you can put as much or as little as you want on them.

3. Massager: Massagers come in different sizes and in different categories but the point is that they are probably going to be too exhausted to massage each other. Massagers are usually low cost gifts at stores like Wal-Mart and Target. Back when my first child was born, I begged for a massager and ended up with one for my back, feet, and legs. I was thankful and ended up writing the companies a letter explaining that they should give these away to new parents. It didn't happen but they did come out with a commercial about them and how they help parents relax. Maybe I should have patented that idea.

4. Headphones: You might laugh at this idea but it really is a life saver for when you have had about all that you think you can handle. If you haven't heard of the one minute rule I am going to explain it; the one minute rule is when you leave the baby alone in a safe and secure area for one minute so that you can step away when the baby keeps crying and you feel like you are loosing control. Instead of using the one minute rule, I used headphones that away I can drown out the baby and still keep an eye on him. A set of headphones are great to have for the one minute rule and for when they just want to relax. Headphones are a low cost gift since most people are converting to Ipods and MP3 Players but you can still purchase these at many stores.

5. Books: Books about anything that has to do with babies, children, parenting, marriage, and spirituality are great to have. I would also include cookbooks, organizers, and anything that has to do with keeping your house clean and clutter free. Books are low cost gifts if you purchase them while they are on sale or online through sites like EBay and Amazon. I don't feel that a parent can know too much about their baby, marriage, or house and this is why books comes in at number five in this list. When it comes to understanding your life, books can help to keep you calm and keep you organized while maintaining your sanity. If you are wandering how to come up with your own low cost gifts for new parents, take a look at your life style and some of the things that you wish someone would have bought you.
