New Releases for the Computer in August 2009
The Hot Games Coming Out at the End of Summer for the Home Computer
August 3rd: Fallen Earth (www.fallenearth.com)
If you are a fan of Fallout (and really who isn't) than this new massive online role-playing game might just be the adventure for you. The world has been nearly wiped out and the few survivors have gathered in the Grand Canyon to try and build a new life. There are six factions in the game so far and the visuals look very similar to Fallout. Lately a lot of MMORPG have been hit or miss but this one looks like it might have found a winning formula.
August 4th: Dungeons and Dragons Online: Ebberon Unlimited (www.ddo.com)
Another MMORPG will have new content in the beginning of August and this one is inspired by the most famous role-playing game of them all. Dungeons and Dragons is starting to revitalizes their online world with this expansion that will not only have a whole new setting, Ebberon, but also make the gaming world free to explore.
August 7th: Hearts of Iron 3
The award winning and well-received strategy game Hearts of Iron gets its latest edition in August as well. The game includes all that folks loved about the first two games but also enhances the experience in enough new ways to be worth the purchase. The big new aspect of the game is the sheer size of the maps that can now hold 10,000 provinces to battles across. With all the new tweaks and improved graphics this game might become the definitive World War 2 strategy title.
August 12th: Tales of Monkey Island Episode 2 (www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland)
The classic and greatly loved game Monkey Island is the latest game to try out the episode format for their content. It has been a while since there has been a new Monkey Island game and while the graphics might be greatly improved the elements of humor and style that made the games famous are still around. This is going to be a story told in five episodes, so to get the whole story download Episode 1 quickly so you can be caught up when the next installment is released.
August 18th: Fallout 3 Add On #2 Broken Steel and Lookout Point (www.fallout.bethseda.com)
As mentioned before there are only a few folks out there that don't love their Fallout and Bethseda Softworks knows it. That's why they are offering up a whole new add-one for gamers. This pack includes two expansions. One is a whole new mission strand that continues the epic struggle in DC against the Enclave. While the other reveals a whole new area know as Lookout Point that will mostly be a swamp land filled with all new characters and adventures.
August 18th Wolfenstein (www.wolfenstein.com)
The classic first person shooter returns with a whole new storyline and graphics engine. Still, even though this game might look like a new monster the truth is the aspects of the game that fans of the original loved are still in tact. The setting is a hospital deep behind enemy lines were the Nazi's are experimenting with things they shouldn't, mainly the occult. Expect plenty of soldiers to fight against and most likely things much scarier.
August 25th Arkham Asylum (www.batmanarkhamasylum.com)
This great new adventure for the Caped Crusader, Batman, is not only coming to the XBOX and Playstation. PC fans can also get involved in this dark and moody tale that has our hero trapped in the very prison that he had helped fill with all the greatest and craziest villains of the Batman world. This is a Batman story told the way it should be and should be a great game no matter what system you play it on.
August 25th Crime Craft (www.crimecraft.com)
Here is a massive online game of a different story. Instead of being mainly a role-playing game on a massive server with hundreds of players, Crime Craft is a tactical shooter. In the game the players all play gangsters in a modern setting that has been torn apart by political strife and natural crisis. Players will use their guns and their wits to build a criminal setting in this brave new world.
August 25th Red Faction Guerilla (www.redfaction.com)
The well-received action packed first person shooter gets its computer release towards the end of August. This game has already been causing havoc on X-BOX 360 and Playstation 3 but for those that don't know much about it. The game takes place in Mars about fifty years after the last game. The action of Red Faction takes place in an open world and focuses on big guns and lots of destruction.
