Soccer Starts, DJ Heroes Join Mario and Sonic in the New Release Bin in October.

By the time October comes in 2009 the holiday season for video games will be just starting up. Already in September we had two huge new music games rock on to the scene. Now in October more big titles will be released. On the Wii a couple of big sport games will be coming out and yet more music games will be unleashed at the end of the month. Also in true Nintendo fashion some classic game heroes will be given new games to shine in all new ways.

It may not be the peak of the holiday season quite yet but it's starting to feel that way. This is a guide to all the games of note coming out for the Wii in October 2009.

October 6th NBA 2K10 (2ksports.com/games/nba2k10)

On the new Wii Sports resort you are able to play a little basketball with the new motion plus add on. While the game did not have a lot of depth it did give a taste of what the next evolution of basketball games might be like. There is not a lot of talk yet about what will be included in the update of this steady sport franchise but expect tighter controls and a graphics upgrade. If it uses the motion plus controller than we might get the first truly addictive b-ball game for the Wii.

October 6th Spore Hero (www.spore.com/what/wii)

Those of you who have played Spore of the PC know what the game is all about. You build life, than evolve it from a single cell critter to a space traveling empire. Now folks on the Wii will get a taste of the alien goodness. In this adventure game players create a Spore critter to go on their very own adventure. As you travel you get to put new features on your critter making them an even greater warrior.

October 6th: Star Wars: Clone Wars - Republic Heroes

Star Wars has a long history of making video games that give fans a deeper look at the vast world the stories take place. Republic Heroes continues that tradition by expanding the world of the new Star Wars TV show. The game will feature over 30 missions where you will play as a Jedi warrior or a clone trooper. All of the game is done in the style of the TV show and movie.

October 6th: Tom Clancy's Hawx (www.hawxgame.com)

In September flight sims had a surprise resurgence, and now Tom Clancy wants in on the action. In Hawx you fly the most hi-tech planes that exist now as you battle a private military force that is trying to take over the USA. The game mechanics come with tools that help make it easy to target foes while you fly through blazing gun fights but as you progress you can take away all of the aid and fly out on your own.

October 13th: Boy and his Blob

Some folks might not know of the old Nintendo classic A Boy and His Blob. It was not very popular and was surprisingly short. Still for those that played it they remember the inventive game play of the blob that could turn into things based on what kind of jellybeans you fed him. Now the game is back with a stunning new look and much more expansive feel. Old Nintendo fan boys like me should be very excited about this game.

October 13th: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

So a couple years back the unthinkable happened in the world of video games. Mario and Sonic were together in a game and retro games looked at this with mixed feelings of horror and excitement. Now the two are at it again battling for our love in the venue of the upcoming Winter Olympic games. Using the balance board players can compete in all sorts of events on their own or with their friends. There is even a mode to play through the whole library events in one big festival. This one looks to be a lot of fun.

October 13th: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (www.konami.com/games/shsm/)

Silent Hill is one of the big games that started the horror video game movement. It spawned a whole lot of sequels but for most fans it never got as good as the first time. Now many years later a new game is coming out on the Wii that takes the first story and retells it, in a way that is hopefully very fresh. The game will have little to no combat with a focus on staying out of harms way and solving puzzles. It's a fusion of horror and mystery games, not a bad combo in my book. I am looking forward to this one.

October 20th: FIFA Soccer 10 (fifa.easports.com/)

One of the most consistent sports franchise on the Wii has been FIFA Soccer. Every year since the system has been out EA has put out a solid soccer game that is fun and has a lot of depth. Each year the games get better, with better controls and more interesting ways to play. This year from the looks of things the trend is going to continue. Soccer may not be huge in the states but if you have any love for the sport at all you will want to pick up this new addition to the series.

October 20th: Smack Down Vs Raw 2010 (www.smackdownvsraw.com/)

The WWE franchise on the other hand has not been as solid. Some years the wrestling game given to the Wii feels fresh and intuitive as if it was built for the system. Some years it feels that the game given to Nintendo owners was an afterthought. Last years Smack Down was not that impressive but the company seems to be learning from their mistakes. The controls are better and in general the game is better thought out. There is no way to tell until it comes out but it might be worth the risk.

October 20th: Walk It Out

One of the things that the Wii is great for is simple game that gives you ways to play in whole new ways. Walk It Out is one of those games. It builds from some of the mini games in Wii Fit to create its own game world based on walking and music. In the game you walk to the beat of the in game soundtrack and the more you walk the more world you get to explore. Everyday you walk you discover a new path in the simple but pretty world. It has over 150 music tracks and sure its not a game for hardcore players, but for only 30$ it's a good way to make exercise fun again if the Wii Fit is starting to feel stale.

October 27th: DJ Hero (www.djhero.com)

The folks behind Guitar Hero know a gift horse when they are starting at it. Music games are huge right now and they are hoping that when you get worn out on their new Guitar Hero you might want to try out there new game, DJ Hero. Don't be mistaken, this is not just a simple new add on. This is an expansive stand-alone game that allows you to spin like a real DJ with over 100 tunes that you can mix and scratch in whole new ways. This game has been a long time coming and might be good enough to be the new titan of the music heroes.

October 27th: Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter

The Drawn to Life series might be meant for younger kids, so you might think of skipping over it. The truth is that there could be a pretty decent game hiding in this new installment. The idea behind it is sound; you draw your hero and other elements of the simple adventure game. It lacks some of the style of Scribblenaughts but it might be a nice treat to hold you over until Scribble comes to the Wii.

October 27th: Dance Dance Revolution

Before there was Guitar Hero or Rock Band, the only place to get music-based video games was to join the Dance Dance Revolution. Those days may seem long ago but with the balance board the revolution can start again. Despite its title this game is based on Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 and it uses the balance board to streamline the whole dance experience. It has over 50 great tracks and will defiantly be worth looking at, even if it's just to go down memory lane.
