New Releases for the Wii for September 2009

Rocking Out, Smashing Up and Other Fun Things Await the Wii

Grant Bracken
When it comes to video games September seems to be the month to rock out with two big music games coming out for almost every system. The Wii is no exception. It has both of the big rock juggernauts coming to its system. Of course those are not the only new releases coming out for the Wii in September. Beyond rock and roll we have Dirt, turtles and Ultimate Alliances to consider. It's going to be a busy month so here is a helpful guide to all the releases of note coming out for the Wii in September.

September 1st: Guitar Hero 5 (gh5.guitarhero.com)

Not sure what more can be said about this series. The last few games have been nation wide phenomena that everyone has at least heard of. It takes a lot for a video game to be a household name but Guitar Hero is there. If you are fan of this series the new addition will not disappoint. The game offers an epic set list of music with the ability to play any downloaded content from the last Hero game. You can rock out with your Miis on the Nintendo version and you can be Santana. What more can you ask for?

September 1st: Mini Ninjas

There is another hero that gets to showcase his skills at the start of the month. His name is actually Hiro and he is a tiny ninja on a big adventure. While I am sure not as many people will pick up this game as the other release on this day, the game looks to be a promising little ninja adventure for the smaller gamers around the house.

September 8th Academy of Champions Soccer

Also for the younger gamers come the arcade style soccer game that is a Wii exclusive. This game has a fairly expansive story body where you start off in soccer school, recruit fellow teammates and then go up against your rivals. The visual style might be a little light but this game offers use of both the balance board and Wii Plus to make for some tight controls.

September 8th Dirt 2 (www.dirt2game.com)

This game follows the success of Collin McRae's Dirt with a sequel that still holds his name even after his death. The game will expand on all the aspects of the game that worked offering new tracks and new ways to play. Of course the graphics have been improved but also the scope of the game is much bigger, including many different disciplines of off-road racing.

September 8th Muramasa: The Demon Blade (www.muramasathedemonblade.com)

One of the darlings of E3 is finely getting its big release. This game takes a rich mythology based on Japanese lore and creates a very pretty 2D action game. The players play a ninja that must transverse stunning hand drawn environments. This game has a classic feel to it but the depth of the game is quite surprising, each level has multiple paths to follow and vertical elements to go along with traditional side scrolling action. This game will be one of the big hits of the month.

September 8th Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga

If there is one thing that the Wii does not have enough of its good RPGs. That's why it is so nice to see the Valhalla Knights series put out a game for the system and even make it a Wii exclusive. So far we have only been able to see this series of games on the PSP so it's going to be a thrill to see the high fantasy on the big screen. The Wii exclusive should be a good addition to the series as it has great visuals and an all-new epic story line.

September 9th Rock Band: Beatles Edition (www.thebeatlesrockband.com)

Guitar Hero 5 might have a whole lot of new tunes but not a single one of them will be by the Fab Four. That's because they are all contained in this new game from the other big music franchise Rock Band. Not only does this game feature a whole lot of songs by the Beatles. It has never before headed dialogue between the original band members recorded at Abbey Road and a three-part vocal harmony component to the game so you can really get a feel for what it was like being one of the greatest bands in the world.

September 15th Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

This action adventure game is inspired by the movie coming out in September as well. You take on the role of the scientist will all sorts of gadgets and a friendly monkey sidekick that player two can control. You main enemies in the game are food and the robot that is causing the worldwide food fight. The levels you play on are also pretty much based on food so prepare to feel hungry after playing this game.

September 15th Martian Panic

This is a small action shooter coming out under the radar in the middle of the month. The plot is pretty thin; mostly you are shooting aliens and their space ships. Its an arcade shooter meaning you don't worry about movement just have fun blasting away. The cool thing about this game is that you can pull out a second Wii mote and have two guns. I am not sure if the game will be very good but dual gun mojo sounds pretty amusing.

September 15th Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (marvelultimatealliance.marvel.com)

Marvel is at it again brining us another mash up game featuring all the comic book characters we love to fight as and some that we could do without. Like the other games that have come before it the game allows you to play as four heroes from the Marvel games as you travel through different environments from the comic world. Its pretty much Marvel Ultimate Alliance with a big new graphics overhaul but still that's a formula for a fun game.

September 15th NHL 2K10 (2ksports.com/games/nhl2k10)

Its that time of year for fans of hockey video games. The sports franchise has its nearly update in mid-September and the updates go beyond the graphics this year. The big thing to get excited about is the controls for this new game that allows for the classic controller, and wii mote for simple, fun controls. For those that are more hardcore though this game also comes with a Wii Motion plus control set up that demands precise control.

September 15th Tornado Outbreak

This is a little action adventure game coming out for a couple systems where you play a tornado that has to eat up everything in its path to get bigger. The odd thing is the game takes place in another world and there are bad guys that only the tornado can destroy. My only hope is that there are some flying cows.

September 15th Toy Story Mania

Another cheap game coming out in the middle of the month, this one coming to you from Disney. The game is a classic arcade shooter with mostly a toy story theme to it. There are many levels inspired but all sorts of areas of the Disney World Park and some other mini games thrown in. Also the game comes with its own set of groovy 3D glasses.

September 15th: Walk it Out

Only on the Wii could you have a game all about walking. Walk it Out is a work out game where you walk in pretty locations with your Mii to the beat of some grooving music. The more you walk, the more you get to explore the expansive world. Its not going to be a game for everyone but for folks tired of the island lap on Wii Fit it will be a nice little game.

September 22nd: TMNT Smash-Up (tmntgame.us.ubi.com)

After all these years am I the only one pleasantly surprised to see that the teenage mutant ninja turtles are still around? This time around they are in a four player smash em up fighting game. This game is a bit like a Smash Brothers clone except now you have turtles in a half shell and their wacky friends. It's been a while since we have had a fighting game like this so it's nice to see a new addition to the genre.

September 22nd Wacky World of Sports

From Sega, comes this odd game that collects strange sports from around the country into one party game. All of these games are apparently based on real events somewhere in the world. Some of the wacky events include armchair racing and trout tossing. This game will either be a whole lot of fun or just a whole lot of weirdness.

September 28th Dead Space Extraction (deadspace.ea.com)

Dead Space was a huge success on the other systems and a game that was very chilling to play. Now for those folks that never got to play the original they have their own title built from the ground up and exclusive to the Wii. The game is a prequel-taking place on a deep space mining colony where a virus is causing chaos in its wake. This game has all new weapons and characters not found in the first game and also a new co-op multiplayer mode.

September 28th Secret Files: Tunguska

A mystery game that takes place with 3D characters exploring stunning rendered 2D back grounds as they explore a modern day mystery that is connected to the real life events that happened in Tunguska, Siberia at the turn of last century where an area burst into flames for reasons that are still a mystery.

September 28th Spyborgs (www.spyborgs.com)

The last game in the release guide might also be one of the most fun games to come out on the Wii this month. This bash-em up adventure game has you play cyborgs that are setting out on an adventure to beat up some really bad robots. You can play as five different characters all with different abilities and you can even do a co-op mode with a friend. The controls are simple to learn but a whole lot of fun. The game looks stunning and will defiantly be worth a look at.
