New Releases on the X-Box 360 for September 2009

Rock and Roll, Dogfights and a New Halo All in One Month!

Grant Bracken
For the big video games systems this year, September is going to be all about the music. The two titans of rock games are going head to head yet again with two major releases coming out in September. X-Box 360, of course, has both of these new games but that is not all. The huge system has a bunch of action coming out in September. For the X-Box you not only have the newest NHL games but also a new Halo game to get excited about. This is a guide to all the games of note coming out for the X-Box 360 in September 2009.

September 1st Guitar Hero 5 (gh5.guitarhero.com)

What a way to start the month! Guitar Hero is back with a whole new game so that you can get your rock on. Now with all the music that was given to you with Guitar Hero World Tour and the expansions that followed you may wonder why you need a new game. Well Guitar Hero 5 has a whole bunch of new features, making the whole band experience much smoother. Of course the graphics are simply amazing and on top of all that you can play as Johnny Cash.

September 1st Mini Ninja

This fun little adventure title is coming out on almost all the systems at the start of September. While it is not a huge game like Guitar hero it looks to be a fun action game with a cute ninja as its hero. For the best visual version of the game, look no further than the X-Box.

September 8th Darkest of Days (www.darkestofdays.com)

This action first person shooter takes place during the darkest days in our history. Its true it may not sound like a very upbeat setting for a game but the game has an interesting story. Your character travels through time during terrible events in history to rescue people who were never meant to be there and thus making the world a better place. Pompeii and the bloody battle of Anaheim are two of the confirmed settings.

September 8th Dirt 2 (www.dirt2game.com)

When it comes to off road racing games, Dirt was one of the best in recent years. Now the sequel is coming out and the game designers have been smart. They have not changed much of the game because not much was broke. They have simply expanded the experience to involve new ways to race and new locations to race in. Also of course the graphics are even better this time around.

September 8th Heroes Over Europe (www.heroesovereurope.com)

Rock and roll might be getting the spotlight but September also has two massive flight games coming out on X-Box. The first is Heroes Over Europe, the sequel to the epic and successful Heroes Of The Pacific. This time around the dogfights are taking place over London and Berlin. There are all new ways to play and an expanded online game. Also the visuals are just stunning, air combat has rarely looked as real or as stunning.

September 8th Qubed

If you have not played E4 or Rez HD than you have missed out on some of the best that X-Box arcade has to offer. Luckily for you the two games are being packed together with Lumines Live (an amazing addictive game of its own) into one game collection simply called Qubed. If you missed any of these games pick this collection up.

September 8th Raiden 4

The classic arcade shooter is almost a dying breed now a days but there are still new games being made in this style. Raiden 4 is one of the most stunning releases in this genre that has been seen in a long time. It uses the graphics of the 360 to make a stunning and complex shooter. The game will also come with downloadable content.

September 9th Rock Band: Beatles (www.thebeatlesrockband.com)

It should come to no surprised that the folks behind Rock Band couldn't let their biggest rival come out with a game in September and not have a game of their own. While they are not offering a complete new version of their game they do have one of the biggest bands in history starring in their first video game. That is a pretty potent weapon against their rival as the new game is filled with Beatles songs never before offered to players and the option to do triple vocal harmonies for the first time in rock video game history.

September 15th IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey

The Sturmovik series use to be found only on PC for those that were hardcore flight sim fans, but the newest version of the game will also be coming out for many systems including the X-Box. The X-Box version will offer graphics that rival the PC version. The game also provides a very engaging difficulty system that allows for arcade simplicity or simulation grade complexity while you fight in over 50 missions.

September 15th Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (marvelultimatealliance.marvel.com)

In the middle of the month the next Marvel hero mash up will come out on all systems. The game style is pretty much the same as the last few games. You take four heroes of your choosing and crash through various levels making your heroes stronger as you go. There is a massive amount of heroes in this game that follows the Secret War storyline from the Marvel Comics. Some of these heroes you can only get on the X-box but for the most part it's the same game on all the systems.

September 15th Need for Speed: Shift (shift.needforspeed.com)

Taking a step away from the street racing themes of their last few games the folks behind Need For Speed are ready to offer something a little different. Shift focus on the sport of racing and tries to recreate the feel of being behind a high performance racer. Even the crashes will feel more real thanks to a new crash engine made for the game.

September 15th NHL 10 and NHL 2K10

Why the world needs two hockey games each year let alone on the same day is beyond me. Both of these games look pretty good. I am not a huge hockey fan but the graphics for both are great. Both games boast new mechanics and ways to play. It would be hard to pick one if you had too but the polish on EA's NHL 10 shines a little brighter.

September 15th Wet (www.rubiwet.com)

Action video games have been feeling more and more like movies as the years have gone by to the point where movie like action games are their own subgenre. With graphics being so good, it can be quite the thrill to play a fast paces, action packed adventure game. Wet is the latest of this type and it looks to be a winner. It has an expansive storyline with celebrity voice talent. The game features heavy action with both sword fighting and 360-degree gun play, not to mention over the top acrobatics.

September 22nd Halo 3 ODST

The ODST are the Orbital Drop Shock Troops that were featured in the Halo trilogy. The main adventure might have reached its conclusions but fans just couldn't get enough so now there is a whole new adventure starring all new characters. The game's story takes place before the events of Halo 3 but fits in with the main storyline. The game also comes with a massive multiplayer mode that has all new ways to play.
